Because I love RP

Because I love RP

Yes, I actually love RP, I'm not making a bad joke on you guys. And because I love RP, and I miss it, I really dislike SB RP, and how RPs are made here.

Yup, I admit it. Explaining why I don't like RP around here would be hard without actually stating how RPs were when I used to RP.

- It was prohibited to act for another character. For instance, you couldn't write their reaction, you couldn't write that you did something unnoticed, you couldn't just write that you stabbed someone, they HAD to write if they got stabbed or not, it wasn't yours to decide.

- You couldn't have god mode powers, you could actually die, and there were some situations where you just had no other choice than dying. That was it, it could happen.

- You were weak. Oh gosh you were weak, could get hurt, could be crippled. Sure there were some RPs using magic where you could be healed, someone could even bring you back from the dead, but it wasn't easy, only a few could do that and it could almost kill their character when doing that.

- We weren't always fighting, in fact, most of the time we weren't at all. Sometimes we could be in a random location, like the border of a lake or a tavern, or I don't know, a hospital, depending on the RP's setting? And we could talk for like 5 pages. I've seen whole RPs without a single fight.

- We would never post only a single line, it would always be at least 3 lines, and not filler lines, we would THINK about what we were writing.

- We would read back our posts and make sure it made sense, was well written enough. I'm not talking about like a typo, that happens, but just reading quickly our post to make sure it was alright.

- We would keep Out of RP messages to a minimum and would put them between [ ] to make it clear, and would also use italic text to either write actions or thoughts, and normal text to write when we would talk. It made everything just more clear...

It might seems like a lot, but it was easy, really, and made everything more enjoyable and organized. I loved RP. I did.

Yeah... I could see this...

In pedia rps everyone's invincible pretty much...
I used to roleplay a lot with these same situations. How I miss Dragonball roleplays :D
Welp. Guilty as charged for the majority of these things... At least now that you've pointed them out I can improve on them. Thanks for pointing this all out!
This kinda reminds me of Zork, but I'm not sure if that's RP moreless than D&D, but I guess it does have some RP elements.

RPs today (especially here) aren't really worth reading imo, even the ones I've participated in. It seems all poeple try to do now is influence one another in some way, which is truly lame. Can't say I didn't contribute to that either. At least you enjoyed RPs for everything that they were. :D
Thank God someone finally made this.
True...
I no longer rp on this site, i rp in a few groups im in online, you die and you literally die...
Not any of the god bullshrimp, Besides that, I agree with everything you stated! Not many people do good rps anymore...
Very true, indeed

The only RP I enjoyed in my entire life was Spinner's danganronpa one. The other just don't feel as interesting.
The way they insert what the other person does, "Stabs X who dies," is annoying, yes. It shows the same problem online that so many people have in real life: they don't want conversations to be about communication, they want it to be about their actions and what THEY say and do, and if they have to dictate what the other person says or does so they can complete the little Mary Sue story they have in their head, so be it.
Before the Pedia, my home on the web was Tinierme (now closed) and I've seen pretty much RP gods working there. Everything you say fits, and reading the RPs was like reading a good book. There was character development, emotion, action and the few threads I followed (there were bad ones too!) would have done well in a bookshop. I didn't RP myself (way too shy), I just spend hours reading up on stories. Another notable thing was that none of them were fanfiction. Which is great because those always turn out soppy.

I've seen good ones based on fanfiction, but only when they are total side stories and the main character of the fandom never\really rarely appear. And I get the same feeling, many RPs I've seen could have been books.
D
You make some great and valid points!
People should pay mind to these to enhance their RP experience for themselves and others!

From what I've seen, people don't really care about what they write, they just do it in a self centered way, not thinking about the RP as a whole nor about other RPers. This could help, maybe? Yes? I'd hope so...
