Thoughts on Switch from someone who wished for one

Personally, I’ve been part of Nintendo gaming for quite long, even though I have to rely on my pink Gameboy Advance SP, navy blue Nintendo DS Lite, red Nintendo 3DS XL and grey ‘New’ Nintendo 3DS XL. And sadly, among these things, I didn’t get a single Ninty console yet back then (at least until these weeks recently, but that’ll be covered later on). At that time sometimes I wish I could get some Ninty consoles, and when I heard that NX is speculated to be the hybrid of console and handheld thanks to some rumors, I’m so psyched that back then I wish I could get one on launch day.

So then, there’s the initial reveal of NX, also well-known as Nintendo Switch. I still remember being hyped to the point that, um, not to brag, I was the one who posted the video on the SB right here when it's revealed for the first time, but I guess this is because I was really hyped at the initial reveal. At that time I saw Zelda’s Breath of the Wild, and I saw several games that will turn out to be Super Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and something reminisce of NBA2K. What caught me off guard was when one of the friends of mine noted that Skyrim’s also there among others.

Fun fact: This video has become Ninty's most viewed video, and it's on top trending video for days!

So then, I waited patiently until the January’s full unveiling, and before that, we were speculating if Switch will be region free, until the moment Nintendo reveals that Switch will be region free. This made me rejoiced that I can play some Japanese games from some notable franchises in particular. However, this announcement also brings surprise as one of the games I’ve been longing to play with, Puyo Puyo Tetris, is also announced with localizations as well! I know playing it in Japanese might be great given the region lock is thrown out of window (not to mention that it was never localized before, except for several titles long time ago under Puyo Pop moniker and other ports tied to Kirby and Dr. Robotnik/Eggman), but the game being localized is a great thing, too! This gives me one more reason to wait until Switch is released.

However, near the launch date, I was checking all my savings and find out that it’s not enough to get the Switch just yet, and sadly it becomes the deal breaker for me because I’ve been thinking to get one on the launch date, which sadly is not the case for now. However, in several days later, I decided to compromise and getting a certain old console that revolutionizes gaming back in its heyday, Nintendo Wii, as part of the consolation. The good thing is that I’m still able to get a Ninty console, even though not the kind that I expected that time.

Then, several days later, I heard some pros and cons of Switch. I bet some might enjoy being playing on the console and on the go, which is one of the positive points on the Switch. And some are raving on Zelda’s Breath of the Wild, which is understandable given that it’s one of the launch day titles (for Switch at least, you can get one on Wii U too), and I also feel that it might be one of the great games available despite of me being not a Zelda player, but I think Nintendo shouldn’t rely on just one game alone, as I’m still waiting for more games like Mario Kart 8 DX and Splatoon 2 to be launched pretty soon. Or if I could get one game right away, I’m going with Japanese Puyo Puyo Tetris (S) because it’s the launch title in Japan, and I can play it thanks to region free from earlier. Even one survey somewhere voted the launch of Switch to be summed as this: “Pretty good, Zelda is awesome, but it needs more than that.”

Besides of that, there’s one other problem regarding the left Joycon, in which some have experienced issues of playing with it, and sadly that could spell trouble when playing some immersive games like BotW from earlier. Even though I also saw some who managed to find a fix to it, I discussed with my parents about this predicament, and they told me that I feel lucky not getting Switch on the launch day yet. Even though I feel the same way as well, I wish Nintendo Switch would be stable, working without issues and fixing the Joycon issues if Ninty wanted to win gamers over. Not just that, I also think that Switch needs more decent games as well, because I think that’s the factor that determine if Switch will become successful or not. Until then, I’ll prepare to save some more so that I might get one someday, but I hope all these issues are sorted out before that buying day comes.

It's basically something that you shouldnt buy at launch unless your are a zelda fan without a Wii U, but instead wait for the Marios, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, all the other amazing nintendo franchises and all the current switch bugs to be fixed out, and wait for christmas. by then you'll have so many fun games (and a potential price drop!)
The left joycon connectivity issue isn't a deal breaker at all and doesn't happen very often during gameplay (at least not for me).

But I think waiting later on to buy the Switch is a wise choice, since there aren't many games on the system that interest you at this point in time.
I gave you five stars just because I like you.
