Custom Menu & Background themes announced for 3ds

Nintendo Europe has confirmed that you’ll be able to get custom themes for your Nintendo 3DS starting in October. The changes bring backgrounds, icons, folders, music and new sound effects. These will be available for the current Nintendo 3DS models. The new themes will be available via the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Does this mean the regular 3ds/2ds will also have the custom backgroud features as well and not just exclusively for the "new 3ds" ?

Any thoughts?

Yep, the regular 2DS and 3DS (XL) will get their customs HOME menus this October.
However, I don't know why, but I think we'll have to pay for them. Free sounds too good to be true.

This is will be available for everybody who will do this October's 3DS System Update.

This is awesome. I always thought is was slightly sad that the 3DS didn't have custom themes or backgrounds or wallpapers. It's highly unlikely that they will be free, sadly, but I also think that Nintendo will, like they're almost always nice enough to do, include one custom theme/background for free as a demonstration of the new feature.

Well I'm sure Nintendo will give you a select few you don't have to pay for (hopefully a Zelda one will be on the free list!) I'm totally excited for this update like everyone else here!!

REALLY hope they're cheap. I would love to have that Animal Crossing theme. If they're fair priced, I'll even get the Legend of Zelda theme to change it up. Heck, I'd probably end up buying them all eventually.

Excited for getting one but is it only limited on the theme of those from nintendo ..glad if they can make theme from anime .. thats really cool maybe someone can create their own theme instead using the ones that ready for download..everybodys 3ds will theme will look exactly alike. Not so cool either hope those nintendo come up with my idea ~~XP

Nice idea buy nintendo. But i want custom themes. Not themes that i have to buy in the theme shop. And please nintendo, give us some free themes. I hate those free colored themes. Looks nice but i want more themes for my 3ds.
