Intro

Have you ever wanted a Fire type move on your Chlorophyll Bulbasaur and Hidden Power is your only option? In this guide I will do my best to teach you the steps needed to obtain your ideal Hidden Power Pokemon as quickly and effectively as possible.

Part 1
Preparation and What You'll Need to Get Started.

What is Hidden Power? How do I find it?

Hidden Power is a move that has a base power of 60 and an accuracy of 100%. Why is this mediocre move worth breeding for? Imagine a move type on a Pokemon that it can't normally have. An example would be a Bulbasaur which is Grass/Poison type and can't learn a Fire type move without Hidden Power. There are Hidden Power of all types except for Normal and Fairy.

What are IV's you ask and how do they effect the Hidden Power? Think of IV's as the Pokemon's genes ranging from the lowest 0 (worst) to the highest 31 (best). See Marc's guide for more info on IV's Marc's IV Guide . Hidden Powers are determined by the IV placement and whether or not they are Even or Odd.

Example:
One selection of Hidden Power Fire is:

Odd|Even|Odd|Even|Odd|Even
HP|Atk|Def|S.Atk|S.Def|Spd

Notice the placement of the Even and Odd numbers. Regardless of what the number is (from 0 to 31) Even or Odd, any combination will determine the Pokemon's Hidden Power based on where even or odd number fall in what order.

To accurately check your Pokemon's Hidden Power in X & Y is in Anistar City in the home to the right of the Boutiqe, talk to the man inside to check the Hidden Power of your Pokemon. In ORAS go to Fortree City in the top row of homes in the second house there will be three old ladies, talk to the one on the right to learn your Pokemon's Hidden Power.

What you'll need.

Destiny Knot

IV Calculators

You don't have to use these particular IV calculators there are others.

Access to the IV Judge. (Post Game)
You can find the IV judge in X & Y in Kiloude City in the Pokemon Center in the back near the dressing room, next to the TV.
In ORAS the IV Judge is in the Pokemon Center in the Battle Resort standing next to the region map.

Finding and Catching Ditto.

You'll need at most six Ditto, one with a 30 in each corresponding stat. Why 30? Because it's the highest even stat, meaning it's the closest to perfect.

Pro Tip:
151.png

When playing X & Y the Pokemon Village location is more desirable than the Pokemon Safari because the Pokemon Safari is more likely to have Pokemon with 31's in stats as opposed to 30, we want the 30 stats. You'll still have the odds of 1 in 32 (0 is included) chance of having a stat with 30.

In Pokemon X & Y you'll find Ditto in the Pokemon Village outside Snowbelle City.

In ORAS you'll find Ditto on a Mirage Island if you're lucky. Remember when playing ORAS if more than a day has elapsed while on a Mirage Island leaving the island will cause it to disappear! Make sure to find the Ditto you need while on the Mirage Island.

Pro Tip:
151.png

Don't use the Dex Nav. Over time as you encounter more Ditto the more likely you're going to encounter 31 IV's in stead of 30 IV's.

PokeBalls

&
repeatball.png

Use Ultra Balls or Repeat Balls work best.

False Swipe
This is a very useful move in catching Ditto.

Sleep Powder/Spore
Since you can't paralyze Ditto due to it's Limber ability, put Ditto to sleep to make it easier to catch.

Pro Tip:

A Pokemon that learns both Spore and False Swipe is Breloom, teach Spore at level 45 to Shroomish before evolution into Breloom.

Rare Candy
rarecandy.png

You can find these in game, but there aren't enough. You can easily earn PokeMiles by Wonder Trading and trade them on the Pokemon Global Link for more Rare Candies.

You'll need these candies to level up Ditto to 100 to definitively find a potential 30 IV. Save after catching Ditto and before feeding the Rare Candies, plug in the numbers in the IV calculator and soft reset to keep the candy.

The reason for this is 30 and 31 are very close when the IV calculator spits out the calculations of the IV's. Also, make sure to plug as much data as possible about the Ditto you caught into the IV calculator (regardless of which calculator you use) for the most accurate results, this includes the Hidden Power and what the IV Judge says about your Ditto.

Pro Tip:
151.png

While you are catching Ditto in whichever game make sure you turn off the Exp. Share! Reason being you gain EV's and experience points when you catch a Pokemon. These gained EV's will mess with your results of accurate IV's when looking for a 30 IV.

Part 2

Lather, rinse and repeat: How to breed in 30 IV stats.

For this example we'll be using Hidden Power Fire Bulbasaur for breeding in Hidden Powers.

Here's the IV's we're going to be shooting for: 31|even|31|30|31|30

Notice the "even" this can be any number as long as it is and even number. This is nice because we don't have to worry about this being an IV of 30. What isn't nice about the "even" is that you have to hope that the IV randomizes as even, a 50% chance of that happening.

Okay, got your Dittos lined up for breeding? I'm going to assume you already have a "perfect" or near perfect Bulbasaur for this process. [Something like this IV wise-> 31|x|31|31|31|31] Reason being we're going to breed out two of the 31 IV's and breed in two 30 IV's.

Pro Tip:
151.png

If you're breeding for a Hidden Ability (HA) Pokemon that has NO gender now is the time to breed the HA in as Ditto is the only candidate for it regardless. You'll need to make sure the HA passed down each time you check the IV's and etc. If the Pokemon that hatches doesn't have the HA you're looking for, don't bother with it.
If you ARE breeding a Pokemon with Gender now is NOT the time for the HA breeding that comes later...

Next take the Power Lens and have the Ditto with the 30 in Special Attack hold it. Then have the Bulbasaur hold the Destiny Knot; do not give another Power Item to Bulbasaur! Lastly place Pokemon in Daycare. Collect the Eggs, you know the drill. Don't forget a Pokemon with Flame Body or Magma Armor! O-Power Hatching also comes in handy. Hatch and verify the IV's of the offspring. We'll worry about Nature and Egg Moves later.

You can verify the IV's the same way you did with the Ditto by using an IV Calculator and plugging in the Hidden Power, Characteristic and IV Judge's assessment of your Pokemon. You can also go to the Battle Institute to verify the IV's; the Pokemon are temporarily raised to level 50. Plug your Pokemon's stats into the calculator and hit calculate. You should have a 30 in Sp.Atk anyway, after calculating the IV's of the baby Pokemon, take the best one of the group for the next step. [Don't discard any of the Baby Pokemon! They may come in handy in a later step!]

Second, get out the Ditto with the 30 IV stat for Speed, make it hold the Power Anklet, the Bulbasaur should hold the Destiny Knot. Breed the 30 Speed Ditto with the new Bulbasaur that you just bred with 30 in the Special Attack. Again same drill of hatching the Eggs and checking the IV's. Keep lather, rinsing and repeating until you get a desirable result.

Pro Tip:
151.png

If you're having trouble with inheritance (in a Pokemon that has a Gender) keep all the baby Pokemon and swap out the Ditto with an appropriate parent (from all the "breedjects") that has the most optimal stats for your goal.

Third, if you want to breed on the Hidden Ability now is the time. Take your Hidden Power Male Pokemon and breed it with a Hidden Ability Female Pokemon. Now repeat the above steps breeding in the Hidden Power and Hidden Ability Pokemon. Make sure the desirable offspring is Male in this example, reason being is that Starter Pokemon are male 87.5% of the time with , females 12.5% of the time. If you do get a female Pokemon with a Hidden Ability regardless of gender ratio; she'll pass on the Hidden Ability 60% of the time with Ditto. While males pass on the Hidden Ability 20% of the time with Ditto. (Reason being to start with a male in this situation is because females are hard to come by.) Once you have your Hidden Ability Pokemon with the Hidden Power you want, you probably don't have a very good natured Pokemon.

Finally getting the right nature on your Bulbasaur. Remember I said to keep all the "breedjects", this is where they come in handy. Sift through the Pokemon and look for a suitably natured and IV'd parent and place Everstone on it and Destiny Knot on you Hidden Power Pokemon.

For Egg Moves:
You can chain breed a separate Pokemon with Egg Moves, setting a side the Hidden Power Fire Bulbasaur you just bred. Make sure to IV check every single potential partner with Egg Moves/Hidden Ability for your Hidden Power Fire Bulbasaur.
