Way Too Old To Be Here
Towns Folk
Hello one and all! Today I get paid my first paycheck which is very exciting and I'm going to pick me up a 3DS in the next couple of days. It will be preowned as they're cheaper and I dont really want the box. I will be making sure it comes with charger though! However this is where I need your help! I have the choice of either a XL or a Standard 3ds. Standard would be cheaper but I dont want to sacrifice comfort as I will be playing sessions for long periods of time. Whats the recommended version around here? Also any game recommendations, 3DS tips and warning would be appreciated.

Thanks all. I look forward to being part of this community more!

Hey, I've got an XL, the are not so much more expensive and I think that a bigger screen is a lot more comfortable. The XL screen is almost twice as large while the device is not. The select, start and home button also have better looks in my opinion and it has longer battery life.

Tips and warnings:
  • In store the price difference was about 30 euros which made it quite easy for me to decide for the XL-version. So remember the 3DS should be at least 30 bucks cheaper than the XL.
  • Check the circle-pad. If people go really rough on them some of the circle pads might come of (manufacturing mistake it seems)
  • Also check the R- and the L-button if they feel very loose they might be abused by the previous owner and probably respond less.

Congrats on (almost) being a 3DS owner. :)

I recommend the XL as well. You should take note that Nintendo plans to launch a new 3DS in 2015 with an upgraded CPU and exclusive games such as Xenoblade Chronicles (that's the only good exclusive game that I've heard about so far).

Some of the pros (3DS XL) :
  • Larger display, and yes, it feels comfortable in the hand. It may take some time to get used to, though.
  • It comes with a larger SD card (4 GB instead of the 2GB card).
  • Longer battery life according to that article at Geek.com (however, I'm not 100% sure).
PS. Once you set a country and age for your Nintendo Network ID, the details cannot be changed. The Nintendo eShop has some age restrictions for certain content in its marketplace, but seeing as you're 19 years old, I think you're fine.
Also any game recommendations
Here are some of my recommendations :

1. Fire Emblem Awakening - it's my favorite 3DS game and a "must have" for anyone who enjoys playing Chess (board game). If you do decide to get this game, I recommend starting on the Hard difficulty + classic mode.

I wrote a review of the game btw - http://3dspedia.com/fire-emblem-awakening-review/

2. Pokemon X/Y - Its multiplayer is popular around this forum. Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will both be available in November, so maybe you should look into those before considering Pokemon X/Y.

Hopefully Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby's online play is compatible with X and Y.

3. Super Smash Bros. for 3DS - It's an upcoming game for the Nintendo 3DS. If you're into fighting games on the small screen with Nintendo characters, you should definitely consider picking this game up.

Be careful with your Circle Pad though, as some people reported problems (I think it's because of the coin trick method in Pokemon X/Y).

There is a good chance you've heard about those games before, so if you're looking for unpopular game suggestions (where the games are good but can be easily missed by 3DS owners), let me know.
