well with the new 3ds XL coming to america FEB.13 what do you think is going to happen to games created for the original 3ds?
do you think they will still keep them in production or will they eventually give up on them and just make new 3ds exclusives?

Hope they don't but I think they will just stick with the 3ds and the new 3ds and even though the new one have exclusive games that is alright with me since I think the normal 3ds might be getting exclusive as well.

well that does sound good actually, since nintendo wouldnt just do that out of the blue its bad business

I think Ninendo will let it circulate for a bit longer. Though most new games will be exclusive to the New 3DS XL, the 3DS is still a relevant system. The New 3DS is a superior system, no doubt, but the 3DS is not a poorly manufactured product, and will be cheaper than its revamped counterpart. For people who don't take interest in the newer titles or want the experience of playing current 3DS games without paying for the upgraded features, it will still be worth the money.

With the success of the 3DS XL, however, it is likely that they will gradually begin to drop out of circulation.

I don't think Nintendo would abandon 3DS this quick. New Nintendo 3DS is not a huge revolution like from NDSL to 3DS.
It hasn't been around for long either. The games compatible with the original DS been around for like 10+ years. So they should do the same for 3DS. I'd say as long as there is still a 3DS name in the new console, the games should be compatible (in my opinion).

They already stopped the production for the 3DS, but they still produce the 3DS XL. Eventually, they will stop producing 3DS games as well, but it might take a while, it depends mostly on the developpers. Nintendo can't force them to develop on 3DS instead of the new 3DS.

Honestly I don't see a reason why they would stop making those games, even if they stopped the production of 3ds or 3ds xl. Here is why I think this, the 3ds games are totally compatible with the new 3ds /3ds xl. As long as it is compatible they will make those games available for the users. If you don't clearly see my point, just think about the reasons nintendo gave its audience to bring wii games to the wii u eshop!

Nintendo announced the new Fire Emblem game to be compatible on the normal 3DS, that alone proves it's clearly not going to be the end of it for a long time.

EDIT: And the stopping of production for the 3DS is hardly a very good point to suggest its end, the New 3DS (XL) is superior to the original 3DS in all ways besides it arguably being too big. If given the choice, customers would obviously go with the New 3DS (XL) so it's redundant to keep the standard 3DS in production.

It proves nothing, it will take maybe 2 years before we see a real decline in the production after the system comes out.

How many new Wii games do you see, or DS ones? Close to none, even if the Wii U and 3DS can still read them...

I really don't think that Nintendo would like to alienate the playerbase which already have regular 3DS/3DS XL's
The New 3DS is nothing more than a 3DS/3DS XL with a C-Stick and a bit more CPU power, and hence I think that Nintendo will still continue to reate games for the regular 3DS systems as well.
The NEw Nintendo 3DS is not THAT much more powerful, only has a bit more CPU power to mitigate loading times, and gets a small increase in texture quality. let's hope that Nintendo will still create games for the regular 3DS systems :)

I will wait for a larger library/new 3ds exclusives before switching to new 3ds.

I do not think this is the right end of the 3DS (XL).
But I've got a special demo of MH4U.
And there was to see whether you have an old or a new 3DS had.
I therefore think that this is not necessarily the end.
But of course, the new 3ds increasingly important.
I guess you really could use a few years old but then you have to buy a new.

I think that the 3DS will die only slightly earlier than the New 3DS. Nintendo will stop production at one point for old 3DSes quite some time before the 3DS becomes obsolete, but I think developers will continue making games that are compatible with both systems - after all, it's more profitable for them. We 3DS owners don't have too much to worry about :cat:

Except for in-game features exclusive to N3DSes, which some upcoming games are already showcasing.

Nah, I don't think Nintendo would do that simply because of the massive install base the regular 3DS has. Maybe if the New 3DS sells more units than the original 3DS in around, then sure, but that ain't happening.

They'll give it a few obscure exclusives. No need to worry about their main franchises though.

Ok, first of all the original 3ds is no longer in production. Nintendo made the 2ds to silently replace the original 3ds. The 2ds and 3ds xl will probably be in stores for 1-2 years. I'm guessing that the NEW 3ds is the end of the 3ds. Nintendo is working on quality of life machine. The next portable Consle will probably be out till 2019-2020. I'm pretty sure the next generation of handhels for nintendo will have Xl and normal size. To me it was a good idea to make 2 different sizes of the nintendo 3ds.

Na, never. They will continue the production of the original 3ds and the xl one and their games. Like when the original 3ds was released, people thought that the ds productions will stop. But they didn't. Same will happen here.
