What are rare fragments used for in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe?

Sometimes when I battle enemies in Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, I see rare fragments appear so I crack them open and collect them. What I want to know is, what is the purpose of collecting them?

My only guess is having to use them as currency to purchase gear after I unlock rare equipment.

So what are the uses for them?

Rare Fragments are used for getting the rare gear, like platinum, and I'm thinking the DX versions of them as well. You'll need those, and about 90 Gem Apples to get them. ( I'm at the point where I can't go any further unless I wait on my tree, or buy more apples. >.<)/ Good luck! )
