So I went to a different location from the last tourney that was just as far away as the other. At first I didn't know if they even had one here when we got there because it was in a different location than expected. I think some of the salt led me to not play nice but that's just "Johns". I was a tad late so I only got to play the free bracket later. Next time I'll be ready.
I played a Dark Pit player (zen) who never played Uprising before, go figure. That's two Kid Icarus mains who probably never played the game in a row. Am I lucky or what. It was a close game but I got 2-0'd. We played a third friendly so that must mean I played well right? You bet. Next up I played Falcon and edgeguarded him on PS2 and he did do combos and punished my bad habits early in the game but I brought it back. He then went Donkey Kong and I had no idea what to do so I went Ridley next game and it was closer than what I got with Pit. Overall it was a fun experience but I need to practice the matchups with people more.
Update patch notes for this blog:
Anything beyond this point is a week later when I show up at the right time.
Played a Marth. 2-0'd him not a big deal. If P2.0 showed up at this tournament this would probably be the score for him too. I did get tippered by a couple smash attacks but it was early enough I didn't die and besides getting walkoff tipper fair-ed I was pretty confident in my win and didn't lose too many of my stocks. In my shoes Pit's bair is pretty safe on shield and edgeguarding is pretty easy against them if they recover high.
Next up I played a Palutena that was pretty good at covering my disadvantage options and I made a bad decision early by standing by the ledge. Kalos is a good counterpick on my part and I'm sticking with it. I lost both matches. I was kinda annoying Palutena dash attack and bair has her shield in the way. Next time I'll try my luck with more nair and more close range.
I then played a player who I didn't know who they mained but I played Link and Ganondorf and no one else as I beat the first two matches. I just knew the matchup and he had no answers.
Last I played DK again and I stayed with Pit and lost 2 times but I got one game. My issue in this matchup is DK can take up more space with attacks than Pit but Pit has better aerial options for covering platforms and DK has plenty of throw combos/follow ups so I'd say it's an even matchup. Pit can deal with getting thrown under the stage but I failed to recover after in one match so if I angled it better it may not have been a problem, or you know just mash out. I had more luck dealing with DK's special moves more than anything and I think part of that is just working around DK's armor and hitboxes.
