Destiny JENOVA II: The Divine Trio (Chapter 9: Hard-Headed Brother)

Previously...

Mother had decided to use her powers and make who was once Cloud Strife, one of our formal worst enemies, and transform him into what my brothers and i initially thought to be our new brother in arms. However, being aware of his actions when Loz questioned Mother about his loyalty, we decided it was best to reserve our judgement on the new guy who Mother had named Sulbio. We all knew Mother's will and legacy as a whole was and always has been strictly family oriented, hence what we each call each other by. This is the structure of hierarchy in Mother's family and thats why we call each other Brother, Yazoo and Loz calling me Little Sister and everything related to this--this is the way our strict hierarchy is designed. For these reasons, we know it would be unspeakably wrong to engage in a fight to the death with Sulbio despite his behavior yesterday. Upsetting or disappointing Mother in any way was considered the ultimate sin and this too will always be strictly kept under control so such a tragedy never occurs. Despite being uncertain of how our new brother Sulbio would treat us or act around us, we kept all of this in mind and obeyed Mother's rules like normal, proceeding with the next day of work.

Chapter 9: Hard-Headed Brother

I had woken up rather abruptly and unexpectedly. I moaned a bit and rolled back and forth still feeling too tired to get up. Then i heard someone say firmly "Are you getting up or are you sleeping another 20 hours?" I knew too well that this was Brother Sulbio talking. Yazoo and Loz would never talk to me like that. Of course, i slowly sat up since i was still drowsy. I moaned a rubbed my eyes a bit, trying to shake the sleepiness away. After i managed to open my eyes and see my surroundings, i saw Yazoo appear behind Sulbio with an angry face and slap his face. Sulbio winced and shouted in rage after turning to him. Yazoo then said "Watch your mouth, Brother! Thats our boss youre talking to. Have some respect!" I also noticed Loz was nearby and also angry at Sulbio, and said "You need to control that temper, Young Brother. If you keep up that attitude, Mother wont be pleased with you. Get it together!" Sulbio turned away from them and groaned as though frustrated. Sulbio was quite like me in physical appearance; his silver was short like mine in a similar style but a bit thicker than mine was. His skin was white and fair like all of us, his eyes green and cat-like just as the rest of us are; however, he was also quite the brute by his physical build. You only had to see him once to know he has a lot of muscle. Sadly though, he didn't seem very fond of me which was loud and clear based on what he said and how he talked to me trying to wake me up. Sulbio was nothing at all like the Cloud Strife he was before; in fact, he wasnt even much like us at heart based on what we've seen of him so far. Somehow, id felt he was very likely manifesting Cloud's so-called "dark side" based on how overly egoistic and cocky he was about himself--and i mean himself. He clearly wasnt very considerate of us at all. Mother was right when she said he wont be an easy one, that was loud and clear. But i doubt she would take her eyes off him despite how difficult he clearly was. Either way, Mother's rules were very straightforward and kept under strict control and that was the bottom line whether we liked it or not here. Sulbio then said after turning to me and smiling just as he did yesterday "So whats today's job then? They said youre the boss, so whats going on today?" I noticed Yazoo and Loz grew angrier by his attitude, but i still spoke and said "I may be the lead of the gang, but its Mother who assigns the missions. Its my duty to lead us and guide us while we're on duty to secure our success. However, i should warn you... This entire planet is against all of us: me, Yazoo, Loz, you... and ultimately Mother. No day is a day of rest in this life until we successfully reclaim the planet for our beloved Mother." Sulbio laughed and said "How hard can it be? They cant beat us." Yazoo then said "You sure know how to talk. You'll find out soon enough how difficult the mission really is!" Yazoo was still angry with Sulbio which was very obvious. Loz shook his head as though he was getting tired of Sulbio's attitude and sighed. I tried to lighten them up and said "Anyway... Lets report to Mother for today's work!" Yazoo smiled at me and nodded in agreement, and Loz followed and did the same. I then signalled them to follow me and led us to the top level of our territory. I heard Sulbio shout some ways behind "Hey, wait up!" I heard Yazoo laugh behind me, and Loz said "Young Brother is hard which might be good, but his stupidity is awfully sad... The poor guy cant even use the logic to recognize an obvious signal..." I then replied "I know, Brother Loz... but he's still part of the family. We'll just have make do and hope for the best..." Yazoo then said "She's right... We cant just disrespect him back like that or make fun of him like he does with us... Mother would be sad at us for it..." Out of nowhere, i happened to see Sulbio race back to us and just as he tried to throw a punch at me in rage, i immediately stopped his attempt with my hand, matching his fist with my hand completely. He struggled to defy my strength by pushing harder and harder but his efforts were useless. I remained totally relaxed, simply keeping my hand still and straight yet blocked him so easily. After he struggled a bit to top my strength, he dropped his arms and started gasping for air from using too much force. He glanced back at me with an angry stare and said "But how?! Why cant i overpower you?!" Yazoo then said firmly "Why do you think, you dunce?" Sulbio groaned angrily again, and Loz said "Little Sister here is our leader for a reason. Maybe you should answer that question yourself." I sighed feeling tired despite just waking up not too long ago. This guy was just too much. This is going to be a very long day if he keeps it up, i thought in exasperation. Yazoo shook his head and turned to me, then said "We need to discuss this guy with Mother, Little Sister. I think he needs to be disciplined--and very hard too. We cant let him act like that without gang punishment." I shook my head and said "Unfortunately, youre right... I hate having to punish a new brother, but at this rate i have no choice." Loz turned to me and said "Well, youre our boss, so its on you to issue the punishment." Sulbio suddenly seemed to lighten up, and i could tell he felt guilty by looking into his eyes. It was as though he was never angry at all now; he just felt bad. Seeing how sorry he felt, i didn't want to punish him, but Mother's creed set up for my gang stated specifically that offenses like his were not to go unpenalized for obvious reasons: falling under family safety& and unity clause. I had no choice. I stepped forward and said as firmly as i could "Sulbio, its time for us to fight. You and me one on one." Suddenly he laughed thinking i was joking and that it was a gift, then said "You cant be serious. You know i'll win, right?" Yazoo then said "We'll see who's got the last laugh when she wrecks you, Young Brother. Youd better not take her lightly." Loz then said "Youre off to a bad start, my brother. That punishment is worse than you think it is." Of course, Sulbio smiled and shook his head, not believing them at all. Without saying another word, i had used my powers to teleport behind him and gave a powerful blow from my palm directly to his back. He was completely caught off guard and knocked away to the ground, grunting in anger and pain. He gazed at me in anger and disbelief, then said "How did you do that?!" I didn't even respond. I felt myself shapeshift mildly, my skin growing gray like Mother's, and my black wing bolting as well. I felt a spot in the center of my forehead open up also, Sulbio gazing at all of this in disbelief. I then flew off the ground slightly, getting my souba out afterwards. I also noticed it was charged with my JENOVA cells. Sulbio said "No way!" He clearly couldn't believe anything that was going on here. I then spoke and said "If you cant respect your own family, you will have to learn a hard lesson, young Sulbio." I had immediately noticed my voice was strangely distorted, sounding like mine and Mother's combined. Before long, we both engaged in a full-blown skirmish, each of us matching swords for much of the fight. However, i caught him off guard some time after, teleporting behind him abruptly and giving one last blow ftom my souba that was strong enough to end the fight without killing him. This was supposed to be a punishment, not trying to kill him. After id noticed he was exhausted enough and hurt enough, i returned to my normal larvan form with my wing still out. Sulbio sat up and grumbled. He knew he had underestimated me too easily. Loz then walked in front of him, and said "You have a lot to learn, Young Brother..." Yazoo also followed and shook his head "Youve got a long way to go... you really are hopeless..." They both laughed, and Sulbio glanced up at them, but he didn't get mad. He knew he had learned his lesson. I walked to him as well, and offered my hand to help him up. He glanced at me, and said "Youre helping me? After beating the life out of me?" I then said "I deliberately went easier on you to avoid killing you, Brother Sulbio. It was a punishment--not an execution." He nodded and i helped him up until he regained balance, then i smiled at him affectionately and giggled. He smiled back at me, and said "If you really went easy on me, i can only imagine how strong you are when you fight seriously..." He seemed to know that i was only trying to enforce gang rules and follow Mother's creed and did not wish to kill him at all. I also sensed he actually took a shine to me at the time as well. I knew the look he had in his eyes: he suddenly lightened up and respected me. Yazoo then said "Little Sister may be a strict leader, but she is for a good reason. You made her laugh, i see..." Loz stepped up too and said "Thats one thing we've always loved about Little Sister... You could break a rule and be punished by her for failure, but she always cares about her members... Even rock-solid stuckups like you, she cares about you, Young Brother. Thats why she punished you." Sulbio gazed at me in silence, and i could tell he knew my brothers were right. Sulbio clearly learned his lesson today, that was for certain. I had a feeling he wouldn't be foolish enough to commit another failure after our fight today which was his punishment. Family unity and safety was kept under strict control in my gang along with many other things for the greater good of Mother's legacy and will. Either way, i knew this would have to be a day of rest for Brother Sulbio since he had the nasty punishment i gave him. Im a strict leader, but i dont purposefully put my members in danger like that by venturing out in the condition he was in. That was never ok.
