Sephieroth and the rest of her gang met up at JENOVA's Church to discuss the new mission and arrange plans to capture Omega and Ultima Weapon as instructed by JENOVA. However, things quickly took a turn before much progress could be made; Sephiroth overheard their discussion and caught Sephieroth telling them the story of JENBU and SAKUI, immediately picking a fight with her as punishment for failure to keep the story secret. Out his desperation to protect her, Yazoo chose to take the penalty instead, standing up to Sephiroth on his own. However, the battle ended unexpectedly with Kaibu's sudden appearance; a mysterious power he seemed to have placed Sephiroth in a sudden state of total physical paralysis, leaving him completely powerless to move or do anything but breathe. Shortly thereafter, he collapsed on the ground after spewing blood from his mouth. Sephieroth and Yazoo both knew there would be a lot of explaining to do with JENOVA, and thus focused on explaining everything to her as best they could.
Chapter 4: Sephiroth's Past
(This section will focus on Sephieroth as the speaker) Both me and Yazoo had met up with Mother at the top level of the Mako Reactor to discuss the events of this afternoon. When we arrived to her, Mother smiled at us and said "There you are, my children!" Yazoo replied as though hesitant saying "Umm, Mother.... we need to tell you something..." Mother quickly turned serious and said "What is it, Yazoo?" I spoke next and said "Mother, i'll do the explaining here as best i can. Im not even sure i know what happened or why, but i'll say this as best i can.... Sephiroth attacked Yazoo at your church. He was upset i told my gang about the SAKUI incident, and originally challenged me as punishment for telling them. But Yazoo chose to take the penalty instead and Big Brother wound up fighting him instead of me. Then just before Big Brother could finish him off, Kaibu appeared directly in front of him... and that was when Big Brother suddenly became paralyzed after the red flash which apparently came from Young Kaibu's left eye. Before long, he collapsed right there." Mother seemed to gasp, and she said "Sephie... is all of this really true?" I nodded in response, my face an expression of both sadness and concern. I then said "Thats not all, either. Ever since i became Family Hero and left JENOVA Foundation after recovering, Big Brother has been acting very strange.... like he's upset about something, and he wont talk about it. He tried to fight me at your church, refused to let me tackle the newly assigned mission... its like he has turned inside out! I dont understand why..." Mother seemed a bit sad, then said "It has to do with his original birth and everything that happened during his first lifetime. Long before any of you were born, Sephiroth was my only son and also the one i had chosen to help me take over this planet. With Cloud Strife and virtually all of Shinra after me, he was the only one i could rely on to help me build a kingdom of my own here. He did so much alone with me, we both tried our very best together to finish the mission, and as you know we failed twice. With each failure that came, Sephiroth grew furious and more hateful of Shinra and everything on the planet as a whole, as all on it was against us. As youve said many times, Young Sephie: there were too many bogies and too few of us. But since you and your gang successfully revived him and activated the Infinite Reunion, you were appointed Family Hero and your Brother Yazoo became Family Guardian as a result of him overcoming his fears throughout the war to the very end." We both stood in silence. After a long pause, i said "What are saying, Mother?" Mother seemed sad, silent tears falling from her eye, then said "Sephie, what im touting at is that Sephiroth is jealous of you. He thinks i chose you over him and as a result he is trying to prove he's stronger than you. Thats why he is acting the way you described: he thinks i chose you over him. He wont openly admit this because he is too embarrassed and internally humiliated to speak up." Yazoo spoke next and said "I knew something wasnt right... Big Brother would never fight his own family like that. What do we do, Mother? Sure, he tried to kill me, but he's still our Big Brother. We cant just leave him feeling like that." Mother nodded in agreement and said "I think your Sister should try talking to him alone. She will be able to calm him down. He might pretend not to know what you're talking about at first, but he will open up if he sees you care enough to say something and be honest. Where is he now?" I immediately replied and said "At JENOVA Foundation HQ, recovering from passing out at your church. I left there several hours ago to come back and report to you, but the report i got before i left was from an employee there who had confirmed he isnt seriously hurt. Supposedly he just passed out from shock or something, most likely from being overwhelmed or otherwise." Mother stood in thoughtful silence, then said "It was the power of Kaibu's eye that did that to him, wasnt it?" Both me and Yazoo nodded in response. Yazoo spoke and said "Yes, Mother.... but the poor kid is only 6 and felt awful. He thought he killed Big Brother and cried the entire trip back here thinking he was a horrible person for doing that... He's ok now, but it hurt seeing my own son like that. I knew it was an accident; the poor guy doesn't even know how to control his eye's powers. I mean, he's only 6... you cant expect him to know everything he's capable of that early." Mother replied and said "Absolutely. That eye he has, his left eye... it resembles mine with powers identical in nature. As you both know, i have the power to control others and their actions. The power of both my cells and my eye act as one with this ability. Since Kaibu was under enough stress or fear, the power of his JENOVA cells also increased in reaction to his emotion. The only thing powerful enough to noticeably rival Sephiroth's mass of my cells is that eye your son has. Because Sephiroth is my firstborn son, he has a bond and powerful connection to me beyond words. Anyone as close to me as that is especially susceptible to that eye's power, making resistance near impossible. That is why Sephiroth was unable to counter Kaibu's power here. The eye your son has contains the power to completely paralyze an attacker or even kill them in more extreme cases. If he grows old enough, that power could be very crucial to protecting you guys on the next mission to pursue SAKUI and destroy him. It also allows him to instantaneously teleport elsewhere if he feels threatened, allowing hasty escape from a dangerous situation--or into one in cases where a loved one is hurt and needs protection." My eyes lit up with amazement and i said "So thats how he got there so fast and helped Yazoo...." Mother smiled and said "Thats right. I can do those very same things, and this gift was passed down to him through you, Sephieroth. My bond with you also affects the powers your offspring are born with which is how he has that ability." I nodded, then said "Alright. We'll be sure to keep him under strict protection then. Yazoo, i want you to stay here and keep an eye on Kaibu. Im going back to JENOVA Foundation to check on Big Brother and hopefully talk to him.... I cant ignore the pain he's in." Yazoo turned to me and nodded, then left the room to go downstairs. I turned back to Mother with a steely expression and said "I'll bring Big Brother back, Mother! I promise!" Mother smiled at me, tears silently falling from her eye as she gently reached her hands out to hold my face. Mother gently hugged me and said "No matter what, Sephie.... always remind Sephiroth i have not forgotten him." I suddenly began crying silently too. When Mother was sad, so was I. I was never happy seeing Mother in pain. It hurt more than the sword Cloud Strife had pushed into me during my early larva state--the sword that nearly took my life and killed my brothers; one of the most painful days of my life. I could only imagine the pain Big Brother was in. As always though, i refused to give up and decided to confront him and do my best to bring back his long lost happiness. With Mother, i didnt believe in the impossible; i knew that with her power inside of me and the bonds i shared with my gang and the rest of Mother's family, nearly any obstacle could be overcome. This was my SOLDIER Way: the will to never give up and the power to stay strong through even the bleakest of situations. That was the attitude of a true SOLDIER of Mother, and the only thing powerful enough to rid Big Brother of his deep sorrow and hurt.
