Chapter 8: Confrontation
(This section will focus on Kaibu as the speaker) I met up with Brother Kadaj outside the city gates, and he seemed very grim. I asked "Kadaj, what's wrong?" Kadaj replied "I heard a big boom somewhere inside city, and this thing roared so loud and there was an earthquake, and then--" I interrupted "Whoa, slow down. What happened?" Kadaj went on "Some... thing just made land someplace, and I saw meteor being used on it. But then monster disappeared after the explosion and it got quiet again--very quiet." I paused, then said "I don't know what's going on, but I've got a bad feeling about it. Do you know if the monster died from meteor?" Kadaj shook his head and replied "I don't know, but I saw this big forcefield after the explosions from meteor cleared, and that's when the beast vanished." I nodded and said "Alright, well... I don't know what happened either, but I better tell JENOVA SOLDIER about it. Someone might be causing trouble, especially if a family member used meteor attempting to defeat it. That's not something you normally see in battle around JENOVA Kingdom.... unless the enemy is too strong." Kadaj added "You're right. What if Big Brother is in trouble..? I thought only he could use that. I'll call him to make sure he's ok." Kadaj put his hand to his ear, and said "Big Brother? Are you ok? Some huge monster just attacked and..." He didn't finish. Kadaj was grim and worried "Oh no... his reactor isn't responding. This can't be good." I cried "This is really bad! We have to tell JENOVA SOLDIER immediately!" Kadaj agreed "Right..!" We both hurried onto our motorbikes and slammed the gas, racing to the Forgotten City to warn JENOVA SOLDIER. I contacted my mom, and said "Mom, Sephiroth's reactor isn't responding. Brother Kadaj said something about a large and apparently formidable monster attacking the kingdom, and I think the enemy did something to him!" I heard her reply "So they got him, then... I'll tell the rest of JENOVA SOLDIER, and we'll go after them. Stay out of this fight, Kaibu. The enemies we're dealing with are too dangerous for you and Kadaj." I protested "But mom... we can't just stand back and watch something bad happen to him... what would Mother say about that?" She said "Kaibu, I know you want to help, but Rufus and Vincent are a dangerous pair--too much for you guys to handle. Just call me SEPHIROVA or Sister, ok? You know who our true Mother is." I complained "Oh fine..." Then she disconnected. I felt bad letting whoever Sister was talking about roam free even if they were too strong for us. Kadaj asked "Will everything be ok?" I sighed and said "I hope so... but SEPHIROVA won't even let us try to help. She thinks they're too dangerous." Kadaj asked "So that's it? You're just gonna let them hurt our Big Brother and leave Mother with an unbearable loss?" I moaned but didn't speak. Kadaj continued "So what if they're strong enemies? Don't you remember Mother's message and what she stands for?" I answered "I do, but... if they even defeated Sephiroth, we're no match for them..." Kadaj ignored my words and said "Make up your mind, Brother. What do you want to do? Do you wanna follow Mother, or directly disobey her teachings and do nothing about this?" I replied "You're right... even if Sister gets angry with us for disobeying an order from her, we can't forget what Mother would want in this situation. Even if they are too strong, Mother would be happy that we at least tried to stop them. Let's find Big Brother and save him! I don't know what the enemy is planning, but we can't wait and find out." Kadaj smiled at me and said "That's the spirit. Let's find those creatures and neutralize them at once. I don't know for certain, but I have a hunch that monster I saw is in enemy hands. Given what I did see from my distance, I think Sephiroth tried to defeat it using meteor. And since his reactor wasn't responding when I tried to reach him, we can assume something went wrong." I didn't like what he said, but I believed Kadaj was right. I asked "We have to stop and think before we just go somewhere and pursue the enemy. Where would they expect us to go first? I have a feeling this whole situation they caused is a setup of some sort... they wouldn't take Sephiroth hostage if they wanted to stay hidden. I highly doubt they would if they wanted to go unscathed." Kadaj added "Right, I agree completely. Unless they want attention, I can't think of why they would take him. Even if it is a trap, we can't risk him being killed. We have to take our chances and help him." I said "Agreed. To the Forgotten City, Brother. I'll bet they're expecting JENOVA SOLDIER to show there." Kadaj argued "No, wait... I'm picking up readings of enemy phantoms there. Which means they're just copies." I complained "Great, we have a dark arts master on the loose... Any bright ideas where the real enemy is?" Kadaj grumbled, then said "I'm not certain this is who we're looking for, but there's an outsider lurking outside Mako Reactor. I'm getting powerful dark energy readings on this guy, too... He seems like he's waiting for something." I asked "And you're sure this is the real one and not a replacement?" Kadaj agreed "I'm certain of it. I spent years practicing dark arts with my dad growing up, so I know fakes from the an actual being. He trained me well with this stuff; from breaching dimensions to creating phantoms of people, he taught me everything he knew. For some reason, this person's fighting style and strategy seems exactly like dad's... so much its even worrying to me." I said "Uh oh... let's just hope your dad isn't behind any of this..." Kadaj sighed and narrowed his eyes. I sensed he was concerned even though he was trying to hide it. We drove the rest of the way in silence after that.
Sometime later that day...
We arrived at our destination, parked far away enough from the enemy that we could safely sneak in before being seen. We got off our motorbikes, and I pulled my gunblade, and Kadaj drew his souba. I asked "Ready, Brother?" Kadaj nodded and said "As ready as I'll ever be. I have a feeling this specimen I detected here is a powerful foe, so be careful. I'm not certain we can beat him, but we'll do whatever we have to." I agreed "Right, for Mother..." It had been years since the two of us had done anything together, but we were much stronger and old enough we could handle ourselves in most cases. I was 14, had Yazoo's hair with SEPHIROVA's length, and also very muscular and brutal. Kadaj was a bit more thin, had short silver hair and wore a black robe of leather with boots. He wasn't the most brutal looking guy, but he was very strong and a skilled dark arts user, much like his father Vincent. He also had a reputation for being highly intelligent. Even though Yuffie was his mom, he looked more like his dad. I wore black leather clothing that resembled my dad's, Yazoo. We started walking carefully, and our enemy came into view. I cried "Vincent?!" Kadaj added "Dad?! What are you doing here..?" Vincent turned our way, and said "Hmph... 'Dad'? Have you lost your mind, pawn?" Kadaj said "Huh? Don't fake it... stop it, dad! Not funny! Can you tell us where Big Brother is?" Vincent laughed and replied "Fake what? I'd never be the father of one of JENOVA's pawns. About your 'Brother' though, yeah, I know where he is. But tough luck, kids. I won't tell you anything else about him. Unless you're stupid enough to challenge me and try winning." Kadaj cried "No way... he doesn't remember me! Enough, Father! Stop this madness and release Big Brother! We don't want to hurt you!" Vincent snickered and said "You really are clueless, aren't you? I'm your enemy, and yet you refuse to hurt me? I've never seen such idiots. Why, even that pawn Loz isn't as you stupid as you are." He cackled some more. I argued "This isn't a joke! Tell us where he is or we'll make you tell us, Vincent!" Kadaj replied "Just give it up, Brother. There's no reasoning with him!" Vincent went on "If you two think you can defeat me, you're out of your minds. As long as I've got Perfect WEAPON, you're helpless. If Sephiroth can't beat him, you definitely can't. Give up, you pawns. Give up or get killed." Kadaj gasped "Perfect WEAPON..?! So that beast I saw... was that one?" Vincent said "Hah, you're finally getting it, aren't you? But you're already too late. With WEAPON's power, Rufus and myself can torment Sephiroth and make his haunting memories give birth to Shinra Company. There's nothing you can do about it." I groaned but didn't speak. Vincent continued "That's enough talking. It's time to defeat you both and finish Rufus's plans." I cried "Kadaj... this doesn't look good..!" Kadaj added "I know, but just let him summon the beast." Shocked, I said "What?! Have lost your mind?!" Kadaj replied "Just trust me, Brother! I know what I'm doing!" I groaned but didn't argue further. Vincent lifted his arm and shouted "Come on out, Perfect WEAPON!" Shadows enveloped his hand, and an earthquake started: a beast roared from high above and made a heavy landing before us. The earthquake subsided slowly. I panicked "I hope you're sure about this, Brother! One hit from this thing and we're done for!" I began firing at it, and bolted my black wing in case I'd have to fly. Kadaj didn't move; he wasn't even trying to attack. I wanted to yell at him to do something but I didn't. Kadaj mumbled "Just as I thought...." He said something after that but I couldn't hear it over my gunfire and skirmishing with the beast. I flew higher above, and my gaze locked with the monster's. I fired at a shiny red core in its chest that seemed like a weak point, but the barrier protecting it didn't even crack. I fired more shots, but it was no use. Vincent shouted some command at it, and WEAPON began charging an attack that started out as a golden energy ball; a thick one. I panicked "This is bad..!" I hurried to fly out of the way, trying to avoid getting hit before it could complete its attack. I was in panic now. I couldn't even expose its core to do some damage. At the last minute, I sheathed my gunblade and pulled my katana instead. I flew towards it, and struck the red core as hard as I could. It cracked, but WEAPON didn't even flinch from the strike. I cried "This is impossible! He's too strong..! Kadaj, hurry!" I tried to dodge the attack when it finished charging, flying behind it as quickly as I could. However, it didn't end up attacking me after all; instead, it was roaring as if trying to resist something. Like it was being controlled or something tried to take over its mind. I was covering my eyes, and had dropped my katana in panic. After realizing I was still alive, I carefully lowered my hands and turned around to see the beast thrashing about recklessly. I said "What just happened..?" Vincent was groaning angrily, and seemed to be yelling at the monster telling it to do something. But WEAPON didn't even seem to hear him; it kept trying to force something out of itself and was in some kind of berserk mode where it couldn't control its attacks. I managed to laugh a little, and tried to reach Kadaj "Brother, do you see this?" Kadaj laughed and answered "See it? I caused it! Dad was using the power of dark arts to control that thing. So, I interfered with their connection and blocked WEAPON's reactor so it can't be controlled anymore. That's why it can't control its attacks and is going wild as a result." I asked "How long does it last?" Kadaj replied "Not very long at all, but you have an opportunity here. The red core in its chest is its weak point. You have just enough time to finish the beast so it can't battle anymore." I retrieved my katana and got right to work. I flew back to WEAPON, and charged my JENOVA cells into my katana, then struck its red core as hard as I could. It broke, and WEAPON roared in pain, its red eyes going dark before it crashed and stopped moving. I landed carefully in front of it, and Kadaj appeared beside me. Vincent groaned and yelled "Gahh..! You won't have it so easy next time!" Kadaj said "Now do what you promised and tell us where Big Brother is." Vincent replied "Fine... but that doesn't mean you can stop us. Rufus has him at JENOVA Foundation, locked up in the old cell your Mother was kept in during the JENOVA Project. That's on the other side of JENOVA Kingdom. Go if you dare, but that doesn't mean you'll make it on time." Then he disappeared into a cloud of shadows, Perfect WEAPON going with him. Kadaj said "I can't believe my own dad would be responsible for a scheme like this... he wasn't one to care much about anything, but he never went to dangerous or threatening extremes either." I replied "I'm sorry about your dad, Brother. I really am, but we still have to stop him." Kadaj added "I know, but does he really know what he's trying to do..? Does he truly see the consequences..? I just don't know what to say..." I sighed and said "We don't have time to investigate though. We have to protect the many lives their plan is putting in danger. That's what Mother would've wanted. I'm sure of it." Kadaj nodded, and we started back to our motorbikes. However, someone zoomed by at a high speed, slamming the brakes on their motorbike some ways behind us. I heard a man's voice say "Oww! Not again..." We turned around, and I saw a man with something strapped to his arm that looked like a weapon of some sort, he had short and slightly spiked silver hair. I happily cried "Brother Loz!" I ran towards him, and he got back to his feet. He saw me and said "Kaibu? Well I didn't think I'd see you here. Did something happen?" I replied "We found Vincent and had to deal with Perfect WEAPON. Apparently he and Rufus are holding Sephiroth hostage at JENOVA Foundation... I don't know how they could've gotten inside, though. The security there is very strict and fortified..." Loz added "Or it was, anyway. Now it's barely standing. I still have to go after them, though. We can't let them bring back Shinra Company." Kadaj asked "Loz... what is happening..?" Loz shook his head and answered "Those two are trying to start another Shinra-JENOVA War. I'm working with the others of JENOVA SOLDIER to stop them before it can happen. But at this rate, we might already be too late. If they've already got Sephiroth, it's only a matter of time before all chaos breaks loose. We'll have to defeat Shinra all over again..." Kadaj replied "Loz, let us join JENOVA SOLDIER! We want to help the team stop them!" I agreed "Right. I think I'm good enough for the job, too. Plus, we don't have anything else to do." I smiled at Loz, and he said "I don't see anything wrong with it. If you two subdued that monster, I say you have the strength to do well. Just be careful... I don't think the enemy will let WEAPON go down so easily next time we meet them. We will have to fight it the hard way." We cried out in joy and Loz said "Let's give them a game to remember! Follow me, Brothers!" We ran back to our motorbikes, and got ready to team up with Loz.
