After a somewhat harsh 'See you soon', Ruin left with with Jade, the
Dark Elemental, to the supposed path leading to the land where the
Light Elementals dwelled.
As we all remember, the others, not including Emby, thought Jade
was lying, and decided to stay behind.
"So... Last I checked, other Elementals didn't give a rat's scat about
Nulls like you. How did you manage to snag those guys?", Jade asked,
looking over her shoulder.
"I didn't snag them, they just wanted to accompany me", Ruin
replied, not really wanting to talk about it. He was still pretty
bummed about them not going.
"Aw, is Ruin feeling a bit sad~?", she cooed.
"Hey, I still have my sword with me...".
"Relax, I was joking~".
"Jokes are meant to be funny, not to get on someone's nerves"..
She sighed, and slowed up her pace to walk by Ruin.
"Alright, alright. But seriously, why are YOU hanging with them??
Aren't you worried about what'll happen"?
"Like what"?
"Uh, hello? Hasn't your parents ever told you that thing about
Null Elementals? Supposedly, when in proximity to another
Elemental, Nulls can cause drain away that Elemental's power,
leaving them as Null, like them".
Ruin gasped. Terra, the Earth Elemental, had mentioned something
like that to him when he was training at his house. But, he didn't
think that was true. Could it be true???
"I-I don't believe that", he stammered.
"Riiiiight, cuz that sounds soooo convincing~. And supposedly,
Nulls were born from other Elementals. If the baby is born without
its parent's element, it's labeled a Null".
"Wh-What!? But what happens to the child??? T-they wouldn't-".
"When it reaches a certain age, they discard it. Throw it away. I
mean, they can't do it to a baby, right? Still, pretty harsh...".
"Why are you telling me this??? I don't want to hear anymore..".
"To let you know why Nulls are treated like they are. Why you guys
never have any links to any of the Elemental's bountiful resources,
and why all of them don't wanna be anywhere near you".
In all his life, Ruin never would've thought he, and his people carried
such a huge burden of being Null Elementals. It made him feel so
worthless. In the midst of his dispair, he remembered how his
mother always told him to smile, even in the worst times. His
mother...the light in his grim world of a Null Elemental. The reason
he was going with Jade. Even if the Elementals hated him, she
always brightened his day. Now more than ever, he was determined
to find the Light Elementals.
"Jade, thank you", he said.
"Eh? That sparkle in your eye...I didn't realize I was giving you a
pep-talk", she said in a surprised tone. "Look at you, all perky,
ready to face anything. ...That's kinda hot~".
"Huh"?
"Nothing~".
They stopped for a minute to take a break, mainly because Ruin was getting tired. Jade sat in the shade of a tree, watching Ruin sip some
of the water in a nearby stream.
"Hey, we don't have all day. You wanna get your business done,
right?", she called.
"You're right! Coming!", he exclaimed, picking up his sword.
Jade shook her head, smiling, as she looked at the setting sun. Now
that it was dark, she was teeming with energy, being a Dark
Elemental.
"Y'know...if I wasn't helping you....I could kill you right now", she
said, slowly standing up, a dark aura surrounding her.
Ruin stopped, and looked at her. The moon's light peeked through
the leaves, making her hair shine, also making her look a bit more
intimidating.
"Y-yeah...Lucky thing you aren't, right?
...She didn't say a word, just stood there, looking at her black nails,
slowly extending.
"Jade...RIGHT???", he asked again. Now he was getting worried.
She walked over slowly to him, her eye's glowing a sinister purple.
Ruin slowly started to back up, and accidentally tripped. Looks like
what Clover said was true. She looked down at him.
"A-are you ok, Jade??", he asked, grasping his blade. He really didn't
want to fight her, but the way she was glaring at him made it seem
like there wasn't any choice.
She got down, and crawled over to him, still looking quite scary. She
was practically right on top of him, pressed against him.
"That Nature Elemental was right...You are pretty gullible", she
spoke, softly. Ruin tried to look for his blade, but whenever he tried
to, she always moved in front of him, her eyes piercing his own.
Finally, he managed to spy his blade, but her hand was keeping him
from lifting it up. Well... Now he really was in a tight bind. Was he...
going to die...?
"Look, I don't have time for this. If you're going to attack, do it
already. I need to get to the Light Elementals!", he managed to say.
"Your mind's still on that, even in this bind...I'm impressed, Null
Elemental. So you'd be willing to fight me if I ever turned on
you...? Amazing...", she said, easing off the blade.
Ruin noticed the change, and quickly picked it up, and held it in
hand. "Y-yeah, so if you don't mind-".
His sentence was interrupted by Jade, as she softly kissed his cheek.
"What a man....", she whispered in his ear, then she stood
up. " Well then, let's go".
Ruin's face was as red as tomato. That's the first time a girl ever
missed him before. He was thoroughly stunned. After shaking it off,
he stumbled to his feet, and followed behind Jade, who, if you saw
her face then, was grinning proudly.
They walked until they came to a mountain. And not just any
mountain. The tallest mountain in their world.
"How are you at climbing, Nully?", Jade asked.
"What do you mean?", he replied.
"Rumor is, they're up there. ALL the way up there", she told him,
looking up.
When she looked back at Ruin, he was climbing up, rather poorly.
"Hey, hey, what're you doing?? That's not how you climb, dunce.
Besides, even if you climbed up, you'd get tossed down. Even if it
were night, I couldn't get us up there either. It's always light up there,
I'd be at a disadvantage", she sighed.
"Wha?? Then how do we get up there??", he asked, puzzled.
"Beats me. Remember, I said I don't even know if all that is
true. You could be wasting your time climbing up, y'know".
"No! I'm going to find out how! There must be a way!", Ruin
exclaimed, looking up.
It seems that they arrived at where the supposed Light Elementals
resides. But getting there will be difficult. Will Ruin find a way
to make it up, or will he be left to return a failure?
