Chapter 6: Keeping Hidden
We stopped several ways outside of Deling City to catch our breaths. Yaru started "Hah... hah... they know we have her... now what do we do?" I sighed and shook my head "I would normally use my powers to kill them, but if that many bodies were found in one location it would draw too much attention." Yaru agreed "Good point... any other ideas?" Seifer hardened his expression and tightened his fist "Dang it...! I cant believe this crap!" Seifer's radio went off and it sounded like Squall's voice coming through. Seifer took the radio from his coat and said "Captain? what is it?" Squall said "What happened in Deling City? Theres a news flash about a big commotion where the enemy is storming in like an avalanche." Seifer sighed, then answered "They think Ultimeya is the one theyre looking for and we had no choice to cut down a group that tried to take her from us." Squall asked "Think? They think its Ultimecia and are sending in this many men?" Seifer replied "Look, we tried to stop them but theres just too many. We had to retreat outside the city to avoid getting overwhelmed. Mind telling me plan B, Captain?" Squall sighed on the other end and paused in silence. Yaru worried "Dont tell me he knows... god no..." Squall spoke next "If the city is overrun with them you need to find another place to seek out Sorceress Edea.If theyre this serious about getting Ultimeya i guarantee you they have her." Seifer nodded "Got that right. Any ideas about a possible stronghold?" Squall answered "Not yet, no. Head to the abandoned Galbadian Missile base and see what you can find." Seifer nodded then Squall tapped out and he put the radio back in his coat. Yaru asked "He doesnt know this is really Ultimecia does he...?" Seifer replied "I hope not... it'll be last year all over again if he does... or if anyone else in SeeD does for that matter." I said "That missile base he mentioned was blown to pieces after the self-destruct mechanism activated last year. So why would he send us there?" Yaru agreed "Shes right... this might be a trap..." Seifer shook his head "No. It was rebuilt after the war ended, but shortly after the Galbadian army abandoned it deciding there was no need to manufacture warheads." I replied "I see... i cant imagine what we would find there, but if they abandoned it we might as well at least see if the enemy left anything important there." Seifer nodded and Yaru turned to the city and cried "No way! They got all the way out here?!" I quickly turned her way and saw a group of soldiers coming at us and hardened my expression. Seifer grew frustrated "Goddang it, we dont have time for this crap!" I hardened my expression and warned "Get behind me, you two. Now!" Seifer panicked "And let them get you?! You trying to get caught?!" I firmly replied "Just do it! Quickly!" Seifer and Yaru went several ways behind me and i held both my arms up and floated a few ways above the ground with one arm held up and my gaze fixed on the soldiers. One of them panicked "Whats she doing?!" Another added "I dont know but it doesnt look good!" I hardened my expression and said "'Crush these fools, Griever!" Seconds later, my legendary beast appeared from a black void and i returned to the ground. He roared so powerfully it was deafening. One of the soldiers cried "She can call monsters?! Run!!" I quickly turned to Yaru and Seifer "Go! Now's our chance!" Seifer nodded and Yaru ran off with him. Within seconds the group of soldiers were killed by a single spell cast by my summoned beast and then he disappeared. I ran off to catch up to them before more enemies could show up and know i was there. Yaru "You can summon monsters too Ultimecia? Youre amazing!" I replied "I can only summon the beast you two saw. But it takes a bit of a toll on me and i need to do it cautiously."
We got to missile base a while later and Yaru sat on the ground outside exhausted. Yaru said "Oh my god... i dont think i can run much more than this..." I also started to feel out of breath. Seifer shook his head also getting exhausted "If they show up again its gonna be a big problem... We better hurry up and scavenge this place for information." I nodded "Something tells me if we're caught the next group will be massive... we cant stick around here for long." Yaru asked "Isnt this a bit too dangerous...? shouldnt we retreat and go back to garden...?" Seifer sighed "We're gonna have to if this gets any worse. These guys just dont quit until they get their way." I shook my head and sighed "I cant summon Griever for a good while... if we're attacked again i will need to use my remaining strength to send them away temporarily with time compression..." Seifer hardened his expression "That idiot captain! Did he even consider the possibility this crap would happen?!" Yaru said "He probably thought Ultimecia could take them all herself... shes really strong for sure but with these numbers getting worse so quickly she needs our help..." I turnes away and sneered "Hmph... typical of a pitiful type like him. I cant believe i was foolish enough to think he actually cared." Yaru replied "Calm down, Ultimecia... im sure he just made an honest mistake..." Seifer shook his head "We need to get a move on. I'll give him an earful after we finish searching this place. We dont have time to stand here getting mad at the captain, even if im not any happier than you are." I turned to him and nodded then sighed. i said "Right... lets go." Seifer led us inside after Yaru stood up and we followed him into the main hallway. Yaru started "Wait... if youre Sorceress Ultimecia, you can defeat the legendary dragon right? With your time compression?" I replied "Once my power is restored enough, yes. When i woke up outside of garden last week, before Seifer found me, I realized a portion of my strength was lost during a harsh battle that almost killed me... until i have that portion back, my time compression wont be at its full power to take down something that great." Seifer sighed "Great. Any clue how to regain your full strength?" I shook my head but didnt say anything. I knew what would do it, but i didnt think telling them was a good idea especially after everything that happened during this mission. So much for concealing my true identity... it didnt even last past the second mission i ended up going on. But at any rate, the good news was i wasnt with Squall's team. if i was and they learned the truth then I would be in big trouble. He would turn against me without even thinking about it, and so would his other friends. Yaru stopped looking across the wallway and said "Hey, whats that? Theres someone over there..." Seifer askef "What?" Me and Seifer turned to where she pointed, and i saw the same Matron that appeared to me before we got on the train to Deling City. Seifer cried "Thats her! Its Edea!" Yaru cried "No, wait... something is off about her. Look at her makeup and her gown... her makeup is darker and her gown has more glitter on it... especially those fashion gloves..." Seifer was quickly confused "Huh? But how are there two of them?!" I decided to go ahead and approach her knowing she wouldnt run from me. She immediately noticed me and smiled "Ultimecia... thank goodness youre safe. I knew you would come sooner or later my precious sister..." I decided to ask some questions "Matron... do you know what in the world is going on?" Matron paused as if to think, with a hand to the side of her face "Im not entirely sure... but here is what i can gather so far." I noticed Seifer and Yaru come up behind me as i listened to her. Matron explained "A group of power-hungry soldiers are on a witch hunt to take every remaining sorceress for themselves. As you three know, they have realized you live on, Ultimecia. and youre the one theyre desperately after most of all." Yaru worried "They want every living sorceress in their hands? bit why?" Seifer added "Ans why Ultimecia first?" Matron answered "Im not sure why they want all of us, however... the reason theyre after Ultimecia is due to her great power of time compression. If she were to regain her full strength... they could forge any world they desire with that power. Just as she once did herself to get something that was lost far too soon." I hardened my expression "And if i did regain my full power, what if i refused?" Matron shook her head worried "If only it were that simple... these monstrous people arent hunting sorceresses unprepared..." Yaru grew shocked "What do you mean...? What do they have that we dont know about...?" Matron answered "Im not entirely sure how it works, but... they create these horrid devices used to manipulate our powers and cause us to do whatever they desire without any ability to resist. You two must keep her from them at all costs. If they somehow restored her power the end result would be complete ruin for all of us." I looked down and didnt say anything. Seifer asked "You sure its even possible for them to control that much power so easily?" Matron replied "Its a risk that cannot be taken either way. Please... protect my sister..." Yaru looked down "This kind of terrible stuff makes me feel bad for sorceresses... people talk like theyre evil and all but... this dirty use of science is too terrible..." Seifer agreed "Got that right. I dont know who you are but theres no way youd make all this up. Do they have Sorceress Edea? We're trying to find and rescue her." Matron shook her head "I dont know... I cant tell you anymore than i just did because its too dangerous for me to investigate further. Being a sorceress myself, carelessness would only mean more power for this horrid organization. But if she is and you are to fight her... reach out to her, and it just make break through their evil technology..." Yaru asked "So we dont have to kill her...? I hope youre right..." Matron shook her head "If you fight too seriously youll only make a victimized sorceress suffer more than she already has. No matter the odds, always follow your heart... especially you, Seifer. Youre the key to Ultimecia's safety." Seifer got shocked "What do you mean im the key?! I dont know how to beat this complicated crap!" Matron vanished through a black void in the floor after that and Seifer hardened his expression as if frustrated from confusion "N-none of this makes sense... are they trying to start a war or what..?" I replied "It sure seems like it. But i will never work for such a pathetic group like that." Yaru agreed "I wouldve said the same thing. We'd better report back to garden before more of those soldiers show up..." Seifer nodded and led us out of the abandoned missile base and we started making our way back to the garden.
