Meta Knight Cosplay- 1 of ??

Kay folks I'm writing this all here because I've been thinking about this non stop for a few days so here we go.

As this very informative title says, I want to work on a Meta Knight cosplay (mostly based off a mix between the anime and ssb4). And this is my planning stage right now so bear with me cause the fact is I don't have any cool pics or anything. This is honestly more for me than anyone else (lists= one happy cosplayer)

But hey, if any of you are fellow cosplayers, and could give me some advice or even materials, please let me know. I'm still relatively new to cosplaying (I've done some easier cosplays but this would be my most in depth yet). I'm looking to make most of it because I'm confident in my crafting skills, unless I find something I can't pass up. Plus, I'm a broke college student, so I want to spend as little money as possible.

Mask- I hope to do this with either paper mache or possibly mold it with magic model. Either way, I'm going to want Silver spray paint with perhaps some darker gray for detailing and accents, plus to give it a more dark appearance. With that being said, I'm probably going to find a way to cover the eye opening (ie black screen, fabric, plastic wrap?). That part I'm really not sure about. But I am sure that I'll need a headstrap that won't take a lot of elastic.

Wings/ Cape- Here's the rough part. For this, I would love to have a combo: articulating wings that can fold down enough to make an impression that I have a cape on. I have a few ideas on how to do this
  • having two separate layers: one for the cape, the other for the wings. the wings would tuck in on the inside while the cape lays in between the two wings. Since the wings are their own separate part, I would use some different materials and most likely use nylon or spandex to cover the frame, then sew around the "bone" structure to make it stand out more. Then I would paint it up and wallah! The only problem with this idea is extra stuff on my back, most likely more expensive, and the fact the cape won't really transform like I envision it.
  • Using one whole piece for both the cape and the wings, by using looser fabric that can lay like a cape when unfolded and stretch out when articulated. The problem with this one would be material and detailing. These bones would have more trouble standing out and stuff and the cape wouldn't really flow like a cape and make movement kinda awkward. Plus the color of the wings and the color of the cape are not exactly alike so it wouldn't be fully canon. But this idea is probably the easiest to do.
  • Just use two separate entities entirely. Making a cape and making a set of wings and wearing either depending on the mood. Considering I really don't have much for cash, this option is sounding more viable cause I wait to do the wings or cape. But it kinda take away from the whole feeling of the interdimensional cape that is in ssb.
  • And if anyone has any other ideas, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!
Outfit- I'm thinking it will consist of an altered navy blue t shirt, by means of making it a slight v neck then applying laces up the middle of the v. It just gives it a more knightly appearance in my opinion. Then I would use either black skinny jeans (I have some really nice pears that hardly look like jeans) or tights/ leggings. Most likely, I would use the jeans for the purpose of having pockets. Rather than using white mittens, I will probably use white gloves for practicality reasons.

Shoes- Gonna find some boots in good will and spray paint them purple. Simple enough to me. I'm not going to amour them up (such as in ssb). Don't really feel like it :p

Shoulder guards- Despite whatever I do with the wings and the cape, I'm going to make these work! I'm probably going to use modeling clay or model magic (same stuff as the mask which would save some cash). I may make a wire frame for them to add support and hopefully give it a smooth appearance. Honestly, I'm thinking of keeping them attached to my shoulders through bobby pins or barrettes.

Sword- This is one that is still up to debate in my mind. It might be best to invest in a cheap Halloween sword, then making alterations to it by spray painting it and attaching the branching off parts and stuff. Maybe I'll make it from scratch with wood or clay, but since it's more of a 3 dimensional sword and not really like a katana, I'm really opting for something that will give the sword the depth it needs. I saw in someone's cosplay pics that they sewed a plush sword, which sounds and feels really freaking awesome.

Other- I don't want to use face paint or anything, though I am considering yellow or clouded contacts. My hair is a very dark brown and is a passable black so I'm keeping it the way it is (and it's short enough to not be an issue in terms of styling it). I'm definitely using some makeup to give my face a consistent color and texture, though some battle scars and stuff would be pretty radical.
