My opinion on hacking

I'll be providing my opinion on hacking video games here so, here goes. (Please note that this is just MY opinion, not facts.)

Most of the time, hacking doesn't bother me too much. In fact, there are some games where I'm totally fine with it. I, myself, have used Action Replay on Twilight Princess once just to play around. As long as it's a single player game with no in-game contact with other people I'm totally fine with people hacking their game.

BUT, if it's a multiplayer game where you frequently contact or battle other people, (I'll be using Pokemon for an example here) then I do have some problems with people doing it. Effortlessly having shiny 6iv Pokemon isn't fair in my opinion. Something as good as that should be earned through hard work, not a cheating device. There are even some people who will have 6iv Pokemon with a Hidden Power type that isn't Dark. Which is not only cheating in terms of effort, but also cheating in a completely unfair way, as a Pokemon like that cannot even be obtained legally.

So, overall, I think hacking is definitely not a noble thing to do. If you've got time to battle, you've got time to breed, is what I always say.

Well I don't care for hacking and I don't particularly care if other people hack. I personally think that it just takes the fun out of the game. It's like the point of the game is to train your pokemon and really enjoy seeing how far you've come. What fun is there in just watching some pokemon that you didn't train obliterate the opponent in one move? It really just makes the game boring and takes the whole purpose of even playing the game out of it. I think that hacking for the purpose of screwing around and having fun is OK. It's just when people take it to the next level and start hacking to honestly win. It just takes the fun out because it's like... well duh you're going to win. So it just kills the whole experience in my opinion. I don't think hacking to win is a good idea because also in taking the fun out of the game, you could get banned and what not. I'd say just get good at the game, or find a cool glitch. :)
My brother hacks in GTA V online all the time (which got him banned on Steam of course). My dad and I told him all the time to not do it online and that hacks were fine for single player, but not for multiplayer online. So his account has a TWENTY YEAR ban from GTA V online. But of course now he uses my dad's account to just play GTA IV online instead. How is hacking allowed in GTA IV but not V? Well I guess it's just because V is newer ...*shrugs*

A TWENTY YEAR ban? Holy cow.
Back in Pokemon Black, I used hacks to get myself a Mew and a Mewtwo by encountering them... pretty much all I did, and they were like level 5 and I leveled them up myself. I played a against a friend and it was ok, they wern't OP like some people make them. These two I has raised were beatable... people didn't complain either.

One thing I did do,but on Pokemon Emerald were two Pichus that had custom moves haha, I only used them for the story mode, and with only a few friends that wanted to see them lol.

Pichu 1 had:
Shadow Ball
Flame Thrower
Ember
Night Shade (I Think)

Pichu 2 had:
Water Fall
Surf
aaaaaaannnnnnddddd I don't recall the other moves..
I think Dig was one but i doubt it...

Anyway, yes, I agree with you that hacking like so is bad and unfair. I guess their just people that don't want to lose... or just want to impress by cheating lol
As a hacker, I enjoy hacking most of the games I play only for fun, that is if i´m playing a solo campaign, yet I do agree that when it comes to multiplayer it´s only bad when you give yourself an UNHUMAN advantage against your adversaries. aside of that, I advocate the use of hacks if it´s to amuse yourself or a friend.
100% agreed about the Pokemon part.
User-generated content is the stuff of "hacking"gold. The occasional big-cheater battle may not be so fun to some, but there are probably some masochistic people who prefer their opponents come incredibly strong: Basically, hacking is more a thing of preference.

Steam had a pretty unfriendly approach to deal with hackers: some FPS games just banned any use of user-generated content in online-battles, period. Now this is good for a by-the-book battle, but now they can't even use the "skins" they created. (Skins are a cosmetic hack that only changes their character's model, it usually affects nothing.)
Besides that, hacker players who created all kinds of custom rules and items won't be able to use them with each other anymore, even if it's just a one-on-one thing. That strong-arm approach to making the game fair ruined the game for content-creators, who are otherwise encouraged to make stuff with the dev tools included in most games.

To me, hacking a contest, event, paid-for tournament or any thing with more than four people probably isn't a thing of nobility, but the overall world of hacking is fine - sometimes even majestic. People have that right to beat their games at their own pace, even if it's just a step or two, even if it cuts down the systems and work expected of them. They've purchased the game and thusly reserve that right to play it their way.

But if it's against someone such as yourself, who neither expects nor asks for hackers to come and overpower them, the annoyance of them is shared and the people aren't so noble. You could put up a note like "hackers need not apply." if it's that frequent.
I dunt liek haxxing, i liek glitchez
Agree with the others. As long as a hacker plays fair, I'm fine with it. After all, if they're playing fair, I probably won't know that they're hacking.
Hacking is gud
I don't (more like "wouldn't", since I don't play Pokémon that much...) mind people hacking Pokemons. I mean, ok, the game is about breeding, training and fighting...

But what if there are people who only like fighting and not breeding/training? Should they fight only with bad Pokemons (read "not have fun") or spend time breeding/training, which is something they don't like (read "not have fun")?

They just want to play the game so let them do it. Ok, if they cheat and have illegal stats, that's a problem. But as long as they don't really fight in a fair way (legal stats) with strategy, even with hacked Pokemon, they still play the game in my opinion.
