I'm going to attempt to make a review. Hopefully this helps someone choose if they're going to buy the new 2dsxl or not.
So this is basically if you're wondering which system to buy but i have only owned the original ds (long long time ago and for a long period of time) the original 3ds (long time ago and didnt have for long) and 2ds(had for two years and still own it) before the 2dsxl (which i now own and love)
The screen and display are great. The color and detail are enhanced compared to the 2ds. All games are displayed in xl format. (It might have just been me but i was unsure how original ds games would display. If you're wondering just like on the 2ds it lines up with the size of the touch screen. Still a huge display)
For the controls, the d pad and face buttons (a,b,x,y) have more of a click to them than 2ds or the original ds. The circle pad moves smoother than the 2ds. The shoulder buttons are easier to press than any before it. Overall the controls feel and work nicely.
The touch screen is mainly just a touch screen to be honest. But now instead of like with the others where youd have to use your fingernail if you lost and didnt want to replace your stylus. The screen seems to work the same as any smartphone.
The stylus is really short, but if you've ever used a really small pencil. You should know how to use this stylus with ease. Other than it being short it's honestly a really great design and fits smoothly into its place.
The volume slider is way nicer and way easier to control than the one on the 2ds. The speakers are on the bottom of the touch screen side of the ds. So if you dont use headphones, you'll be likely to feel the music or effects on the game. Depending on your opinion that can add or subtract from your gaming experience.
Then you have the ability to fold the device once again! (A godsend if you've ever played and tried to carry around the original 2ds you know what i mean.) While folded it easily fits into most pockets and you can rack up those play coins!
The amiibo reading touch screen works well and simple. Not much to say other than it does it's job and it does it well.
The processing power is great. For a game like badge arcade from the eshop it loads much faster than on the 2ds.
Lastly we come to the game cover for the game cartridge and microsd. While it's weird to have the game cartridge in the frontfront, the game cover is amazing. It slides right out so you can switch games. So dont worry too much about bending it (i'm pretty sure its supposed to bend to allow you to easily get games in and out. ) it just straightens back out and slides into place. Smoothly against the device.
The summary is it is a great device with a great look and feel with a big bang for your buck. It works great and has a nice processing power. With a great display and the ability to fold.
