DISCLAIMERS: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS AND THIS IS ONLY MY OPINION ON THE GAMES. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO AGREE.
Having played the three games a total of what, 5 times now, I've decided to make a review on Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire (or R/S for short).
Story:
Okay, so, the game starts off all the normal Pokemon stuff. You know, A professor named after a tree wants to know your name. After that, the game changes it's formula from most other games. Instead of being in your house, you start out in a moving truck. That's right, a moving tuck. When you leave, you find that you just moved to the Hoenn region.
Pokemon R/S had a very unique storyline for a Pokemon game at the time. Sure, it had the traditional: Battle all the gym leaders, and beat the champion formula, but it had a deeper story line. In Ruby and Sapphire, you had to battle against the main team of your version, and stop them from ruining the world. Speaking of the main teams, while team Magma's goal was to expand the land mass for the land Pokemon, team aqua wanted to fill the sea, so that the water Pokemon could have more space to swim. Although Ruby and Sapphire had a good story line, it felt somewhat short.
Story Rating: 8/10
Should have been longer
Game Mechanics:
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire had similar game mechanics to Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal, being their predecessors. However, it added some new features, such as natures, which boost one stat and lower the other, abilities, which gave a Pokemon an extra feature in battling, and two new types of battles, (Double Battles, and Tag Battles). Double battles occur when both trainers use two Pokemon at the same time. Tag battles are simmilar to double battles, in that there are four Pokemon on the field at the same time, however, in tag battles, four trainers participate, in which they each command their own Pokemon. However, the main story lacked of both double and tag battles, where you would only be able to participate in a select few, unless you had a friend, (or three).
Game Mechanic Rating: 9/10
A lack of of double and tag battles
Art and Muisic:
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire hadstate of the art graphics at the time of it's release. However, the graphics of the games still hold up today. Not only that, but the music is as iconic as ever.
Art and Music Rating: 10/10
Good graphics and Iconic Music
Overall Rating: 9/10
