(So, I've been playing a lot of Xenoblade Chronicles recently, and I've had a strange desire to write a novelization for it, to see how it would look or if I could keep up with the story writing originally in that game. It's going to be a challenge, since I'm effectively just translating actions and voice acting into sentences and descriptions, but this is a 'just for fun' project. I don't plan on writing any more to this, I just want to see how well I could do.
I'll be writing out the first few opening cutscenes of the game. Let me know if I did good!)
Long ago, the world was nothing more than an endless sea cloaked in a boundless sky, reaching as far as could possibly be imagined.
Then two great titans came into existence: the Bionis and the Mechonis.
The titans were locked in a timeless battle, until at last...only their lifeless corpses remained.
Eons have passed. Now, our world, this vast land stretching across the remains of the Bionis, is under attack from a relentless force known as the Mechon.
A battle that would go down in history was taking place in Sword Valley, the bridge connecting the Bionis to the Mechonis made out of the latter's blade it once swung, buried into the side of the former.
The Homs, denizens of the Bionis, were desperately trying all they could to take down the Mechon force, an army comprised of savage and intelligent machines whos armor was almost impenetrable. The war had been going on for some time now, but it was not looking too good for the Bionis fleet.
Three soldiers were able to topple a Mechon unit, the only way to expose a machine's weak spot for those whos weapons cannot piece their armor. They dug their pikes into its side until it exploded. Their small victory was in vain, however, as a blast blew them all away. It seemed like for every Mechon they defeated, they lost much more Homs to them.
Soon cries of "Retreat! Retreat!" and "Get away from me!" could be heard from the soldiers' as they all ran the other way. They ran behind a line of soldiers and turrets constantly firing on the Mechon, but the bullets did nothing to their armor as a metallic wave swept closer to them.
"Number of M78 Mechon unknown!" A soldier cried into his communicator, before a large, metallic claw crushed his head in and tossed his body behind the wave. The soldiers all began running from the battle as multiple pairs of feet hit the dirt.
But one pair was running directly towards the Mechon.
A man with long, dark hair and a glowing red sword ran to his opponents, enveloped in the same aura his sword was giving off. The Mechon tried to see the closing foe, but was quickly sliced to rubble. In a flurry of light a group of Mechon had fallen, and he had gone off without a scratch. He stopped short of an explosive going off before him, and stepped out of the ensuing dirt cloud.
"They're advancing down our weak right flank," he sighed as he buried his still-glowing sword into a ruined Mechon, "For a bunch of soulless machines, they seem to know a thing or two" He then smiled to himself, "But we'll see." He retrieved his sword and stood ready to battle, his sword giving off an aura so bright and powerful it enveloped the whole battlefield for but a moment as a wave of Mechon came marching towards him.

A small group of soldiers lead by a blonde-haired bandana brandishing man and a different man covered head to toe in metal with sharp claws for weapons ran by a field of felled machinery, with the sword-wielder taking refuge behind a much larger foe he had surely dispatched of not long ago. The blonde haired man ducked with him.
"Dunban!" the blonde-haired man said. The metal-man quickly joined them before a blast blew the soldiers that had followed them away. "We've been given the order to retreat. We're pulling the line back to Colony 6," an explosion happened just above his head that prompted him to quickly duck and cover, "That's where we'll set up the last line of defense!"
"Yeah. That's a good idea," Dunban said, "Any more time spent hanging around here and we're done for!"
"Count me in!" The man in metal, known as Mumkhar, had peeked out of the protection of his large claws to comment. "We've got to get out of here-"
"Or we can stay and fight?" Dunban interjected.
"What?!" A large blast overhead reminded all three of them of the upcoming new wave of machinery that was rapidly marching towards them.
"We may die if we take a stand here," Dunban said as he readied his sword, and Mumkhar disappearing behind his claws again, "But staying gives us the chance to change our destinies. We have the Monado," he said as he looked at the sword, "With this the future is ours for the taking!" He began climbing over the metallic body to face his destiny.
"Stupid beast!" The blonde haired man yanked him back behind the machine. "Your body can't take any more of the Monado. I can tell just by looking at you!"
"Getting short-sighted in your old age, Dickson? I'm fine, don't worry. I'm still in control." Dickson looked at the Monado as Dunban smiled. He sighed and shook his head.
"I should've known I couldn't talk sense into a beast." He said as he laid back against the machine, readying his gun blade. "Let's do this. I'm going with you!" He smiled at Dunban, "You'll need someone to drag your corpse home."
"As long as you think you've still got the strength in you, old man." Dunban said. Mumkhar was getting incredibly anxious to retreat.
"Oi! You two! We've been ordered to pull back! I'm leaving!"
Dunban got in his face. "Well, I say you're coming with us." He said as he smiled. "What would we do without those?" He nodded his head towards the blades.
"The enemy's second wave is approaching!" A nearby soldier shouted.
"It's now or never, Dunban," Dickson began to stand up "Let's show them what we've got." He looked at the advancing wave and smiled. "We'll give them a warm Homs welcome!"
"Acknowledged!" They both leaped over the body and charged towards the wave. Mumkhar stayed back.
"What are they trying to prove?!" He said, exasperated. "I'm not throwing my life away! No point dying in some forsaken field."
He peeked over the remains and looked at his comrades in defeat. "Nothing for it. I'll have to use Dunban as a decoy. That should give me time to escape."
He leaped over the body to join in the fight. The Monado began glowing as Dunban gave a little spin.
"Monado, Enchant!"
A new aura flew from the weapon. Dickson and Mumkhar's weapons began glowing with the same aura, signifying that now they can be effective against the Mechon for a short time. Mumkhar scraped his blades together as he charged forward.
"Die, Mechon! Die, die!! Ha ha ha!"
Mumkhar dashed right in front of a Mechon. He jumped and did a dive into its body with his claws. Dickson targeted a different enemy and shot it until it was dead. Dunban continued swinging the Monado around, keeping track of his allies in case they needed another round of an Enchant.
Multiple Mechon took advantage of Mumkhar and Dickson and surrounded them, until Dunban yelled "Monado Buster!", and a large blade of light about four times its original length sliced through all of the enemies.
The fight went on for some time until the entire wave was defeated. They were all plenty tired of the fight, evident enough with even more machinery littering the group. Mumkhar was heaving heavily until he noticed yet another wave approaching.
"You've gotta be kidding!"
"It's their main force," Dickson analyzed, "Looks like the Mechon are bent on taking us out."
"They'll have to be if they want to beat us", Dunban said. "Now, let's even the odds a bit!"
Dickson looked to Mumkhar. "You heard him."
Mumkhar seemed to be extremely hesitant on the situation.
"Dickson! Mumkhar!" Dunban said as he prepared another Enchant, "Let's do this!" The other two were not charged with the same aura as they charged into battle.
Dickson ran up to a Mechon, who began swiping at him feverishly. He dodged every swipe as he jumped up and bashed the Mechon. Mumkhar blocked an attack and counter with a series of swipes. Dunban just charged through, slicing at any Mechon that tried to get in his way.
When the dust settled Dickson found Dunban standing atop a pile of metal. Electricity was surging through Dunban as he was gasping and shaking the sword. He had fallen over as a Mechon went to face him.
"Dunban!" He yelled as the Mechon reared up its arm. Dickson quickly moved in front of his friend, taking the hit for him. Dickson staggered for a moment before blasting the foe away. "I ain't going down that easily! Dunban, are you alright?!"
"Ugh...what does it look like? I'm still good to go!"
In the distance, Mumkhar saw them and began laughing. "Guess even a hero's gotta reach his limit eventually."
Dickson was supporting Dunban as they walked down the pile when they noticed a certain metal-wearing Homs running away from the fight.
"Mumkhar?!" Dunban yelled, "What are you doing?! That was is-"
"Sorry brothers," Mumkhar said as he turned around to shout at them, "Hate to drop this on you, but it's the Monado they're after. So have fun keeping 'em occupied for me! I'm getting out of here!"
"Mumkhar," Dickson began, "You dirty..."
"Don't worry. I'll organize your funerals!" Mumkhar laughed. "Well, see ya boys!"
"Wait!" Dickson called out, but he was interrupted by a blast that blew the fallen Mechon away and sent the two of them tubling to the ground. Dickson sat up and beheld a large, octopus-like Mechon coming at them. "If this is a joke, it ain't funny." He looked to the sky. "Looks like this is it. At least we know our luck can't get any worse from here." Dunban began to stand up. "Dunban?"
"Dickson, take care of the survivors!" The Monado began activating.
"Dunban, what are you playing at?!"
***
Meanwhile, Mumkhar was still running, panting heavily and dodging stray blasts to avoid the crossfire.
"Huh, huh, those idiots! I'll just come and get the Monado when everything's quieted down a bit. That thing's gonna be mine!"
Suddenly, Mumkhar slipped and fell down the nearby hill. As he stood bad up, a sniper laser focused on him. Soon, multiple sniper lasers were aimed at the same target.
"Oh no, please! Noooo!"
***
"...Vile Mechon. If you think the Homs, the people of Bionis, are just waiting here for you to pick us off...you are sorely mistaken!"
Dunban and Dickson charged at the monster. The energy from the Monado was so great its light could be seen from Eryth Sea, the land beneath as Makna Forest, and was bright enough to illuminate even the inanimate forms of the two titans that housed the two warring forces.
(I forgot how huge the beginning was. Hope you enjoyed!)
