I've been playing Mario games since the Atari. I can't even count the hours I spent on Super Mario 3 and Mario 64 all the way up through New Super Mario Bros. and Mario Galaxy. So my question is, do you prefer a 2D Mario game or a 3D one and why?

3D Mario games are fundamentally different from 2D games. The whole point of 3D is having the ability to move in many directions and replicating the kind of space we have on Earth. 2D games are more arcade-like since you feel like you're controlling a character but in some flat world. That's just my take on it.
