3D Stages

An interesting thought just came to me... what if with the 2 new games coming out, they had a 3D stage option? You'd get to battle by not only running along a set path on a stage but in all directions. Would it be harder to play? Do you think it would ruin the game? What are your opinions on this lucrative idea?

No. Everything would be ruined!

Why? Explain your reasoning.

It's a 2D fighting game, so doing that would ruin the original experience. It would be like a party game, not a fighting one...

Original experience? Aren't games supposed to progress as time moves forward? What if it was offered as a challenge stage/event mode?

(Let it be known I don't support the actual implementation of this in anything except something to the side.)

Well just imagine having everyone in their default state, like the way they are when questing in their individual games with grand stages to battle in. =)

Yes, they're supposed to progress, but 3D levels are too much!

Well, you can do a lot of things on GTA V, and the gameplay is totally different...

I can't see this game (Super Smash Bros) or another one with 3D stages beating GTA V.

Did you just choke on some chest nuts son? Even Smash Bros in it's current state (minus the free roam) can trump the likes of GTA-V any day! o_O LOL

Well, GTA V isn't for 3DS or Wii U, so again, I can't see Super Smash Bros beating GTA V.

Let's see... If someone love shooters, and you bring a new and awesome RPG game, what will he choose? Shooters, of course.

If Nintendo makes a sand-box game like GTA but with that special touch they make on their games, that is another thing.

Ok maybe my quote was a little over confident there but still, sales wise, Smash Bros will always ALWAYS sore SKY HIGH on par with GTA! ;D

The game's simply in it's own league. =\

You can't really compare GTA and Super Smash Brothers. Not only are they on different systems but they are completely different in every aspect. Gameplay, objectives, target audience, etc.

3D Stages would be cool if done well, which in most other similar games with 3D stages hasn't happened.

No, I don't think this is a great idea... First of all people are already used to playing the game how it is, if that gimicky mechanic is introduced, then no one would like it. It would overall ruin the Super Smash Bros. game!

I think the 3d stage would be a unique touch to this game series and I feel that the 3ds incorporate the 3d ability so much that it can and should be inputted as a stage. I mean just watch the 3ds (name says it all).

Well if it did have that feature it would be called Kid Icarus Uprising only they'd have shielding in it. But maybe the battle's should be in 2D but if you walked into the edge it would be neat to move the entire stage and have you fight on a different side of it (this would be easier on a sphere like stage to do). And as far as game progression, the closest thing we have to that is Smash Run (which would sort of seem backwards because the concept came from KAR and that's just it). I think it would be hard to play like you described because sense depth on the Wii U would be hard to tell and the whole game depends on whether these attacks have enough range to hit or not. Maybe an Isometric Smash (stages are like Sonic 3D Blast style) but the moving stage idea I came up with makes more sense.

Personally, I don't think it would work out. 2D is best for battling. 3D would be complete chaos and so confusing.

If they made Smash Bros. 3D, the controls would have to be totally reworked. Otherwise, how would the up attacks work? Since now, up would actually be forward. It would alter gameplay completely, and probably alienate a lot of fans.
