Nintendo 3DS Legend
Towns Folk
NOTE: This exploit is NOT illegal, and does NOT support homebrew

An exploit released by 3DS hacker smealum called regionthree has enabled region-free capbilities on the system, which allows you to play out-of-region physical copies of games, in the system’s native language.
This will be really handy for many users, as there constantly was an uproar by fans that asked Nintendo to scrap the region-lock feature.
EDIT: This works on 9.50 as well! :D

Region lock isn't really an issue here. Idk what it even does (dumb rawrrie .-.) Sounds like a breakthrough though. I've heard of people wanted region lock out, so this should be good news.

I don't need anything like this at the moment. However, this got me thinking why they even released region locks. Wish there wasn't any. People who don't like region lock, good place for you guys over here.

Well, in contrast to what you're saying, I blame Region-Lock. Since you don't know what it is, let me explain you:
Region-Lock makes that if you buy, let's say, an European console, well, you can't play game released in other regions, like NA or Japan. And it applies to all regions. NA are deprived of Japan and European games, and Japan are deprived of NA and European games (they don't mind anyway, considering they get everything first).

And sadly, Nintendo went backwards with the 3DS by putting the Region-Lock on it (Yes, the DS(i)(XL)(Lite) had no region-lock).

So, to get back to the subject, I'm glad to see that Nintendo hasn't seen the exploit for now. Even though I won't be going for import because I know they'll patch this somehow someday, this is still a good thing, and who knows, maybe it'll help Ninty learn that they should not mess with their customers.

Good. I hope they don't patch it. It's not like I have tons of games that'd be fully playable for me from Japan but making gamers who do want them a lot is unsporting. Today a guy said something that translates to, "If you do something, you should be able to stand it done to you." (not to me, I assure you :p) So if Nintendo won't let Japanese games be playable on Western consoles, they should themselves localize every Japanese games. Which is can't, and it sounds silly. So here's an illustration of what I'll trying to say:

Making games incompatible between different regions is inconvenient for gamers and this isn't illegal. If they patch this, then yeesh, that would annoy me a lot.

They will patch this. Not because of region-free but because the exploit used here is pretty much the one that allow 9.2 3DS users to use a Gateway, the thing that is not only useful for piracy but that does allow piracy.

It is a big issue for me since I have a NA region 3DS but I live in the UK and NA games cannot be found anywhere!
So I have to either order online (and I might have to pay import fee) or buy DLC. Also I LOVEEEE Japanese version games (especially anime games) and the region-lock preventing me from playing those

It would be great if region lock can be removed, I don't think it will be anytime soon unless Nintendo really announced it.
