So i've heard people say that the 3DS's graphical processor capability comes as near to the power of the Xbox 360's. Te 3DS was capable of running the entire Resident Evil 5 engine on it and that was what lead to the development of Resident Evil Revelations 3D.
Take a look at some HD (or near) graphics on the 3DS:Resident Evil Revelations 3D vs Resident Evil 5 top to bottom:

IGN said:

"Several developers that have experienced 3DS in its current form have reported, off the record, that it has processing capabilities that exceed the Nintendo Wii, and with 3D shaders they can make games that look close to current generation visuals on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the lower resolution screens.
What do you guys think? Are you happy with the 3DS's graphics or do you need it more powerful? I am really happy with the capabilities of the 3DS. I would love to hear your feedback :)

3DS visuals are fine for me, and will only keep improving. With any system, compare the look of the launch games to those that came out at the end of it's life - huge jump!

I would like to see more developers make better use of the 3D abilities however. I know they aren't for everyone, but I appreciate it when I see effort put towards 3D

true. I was astounded when the 3DS showed off Pilotwings resort 3D on launch and when Resident Evil Revelations camee out I was even more astounded. I was actually like this while watching the video> < :giggle:

I never though the 3ds could handle that kind of graphics I wonder if its close enought to ps vita graphics....

My favorite scene using 3DS is in SMT IV, when we use Terminal to teleport to another region. The CG is superb, IMO.
Oh. Fire Emblem: Awakening has a lot of beautiful videos. Chrom vs Marth \m/

The PSVita has more capabilities than a 3DS, but the 3DS has better shaders than that of a PSVita. That makes the lighting effects look real good.
Oh, nice. I haven't played SMT IV yet so I don't know about that. I'll be checking that out soon :)

At first that was my opinion towards 3DS too
But ever since MH3U came to 3DS, it changes my mind (since I'm not into fps games like RE  and I only see MH3U graphics from my friend's 3DS:oops:)

But now, I think 3DS has proven alot that resolution isnt the only main thing in giving user a best experience (a head on comparison to vita has proven that 3DS lose in terms of resolution)

3Ds don't have the graphics but have THE games.

A lot of this...

Anyways, the console can be used better.
They're using a ARM11 Dual-Core 1.2Ghz so...
(PSVita has a ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore 2.4 Ghz)

I am using ps vita right now because 3ds browser is annoying and don't ask about my pc:D
But yeah it can be used better but people are focusing on making games for sony more than nintendo because sony bas more sales than nintendo. At we least we got ironfall, the fps renegade kid is making (not good graphics as ironfall though), resident evil revelations. It's something compared to nothing. If some developers started a kickstarter for a 3ds fps online multiplayer game with perfect graphics and all of us funded it then more people would focus on making games for 3ds .

They're more people making games for 3DS than psvita.
And honestly I don't like fps.

Err... The 3DS' graphics mainly rely on how the programmers render the image... As you said, there's a lot of techniques to improve the image, and make it look smooth, as well as reducing the size (in memory) of everything that is on screen.

Finally, to save even more space (that's crucial on the 3DS), they use the "Z-Buffer" and the "Occlusion Culling".
(Everything that is not visible is "destroyed", and reloaded when needed.)

And just to clarify: The 3DS has 6MB of VRAM. So, the guys who make games on the 3DS are definitely pros.

Final Note: Some effects also depends on which version of Shader Model (yet another thing used by every console or computer) the 3DS' GPU supports.

Ironfall actually looks like it could "Gears of War" a run for it's money....haven't got it yet but it looks great and looks fun to play!

Personally, I think it goes to show that the developers for the 3ds could amp up the graphics across the board and really compete with the Vita because it will look good and Nintendo Games just seem to be more fun to play!....so we would have it all great looking games that are fun to play!

Vita got better graphics, but no games ¬¬

3DS got games AND graphics (Resident Revelations, Luigi's Mansion and Shin Megami Tensei IV are good examples).
I'm still wondering if I'll get a Vita, but there's just a few games that I want to play, like God Eater, Persona 4, Soul Sacrifice, Digimon and Gravity Rush. The 3DS games that I love are more than 60!!!

I must say , that the 3ds really did good in the graphics when it came to the games you mentioned above . Like the Resident Evil Revelations . It really has amazing graphics as well as the gameplay smooth and effective . Well the 3ds really fits to the modern generation in my opinion and though I didn't play the Xbox yet . I believe it is quite hard to tell the differences in the pictures you posted but yeah , I hope that there will be more games that powerful for the 3ds because though graphics isn't that important in gameplay, it is in some ways

It's been quite a while (Sorry for reviving this thread)
I have been getting into 3D Rendering quite a lot, and I have gained knowledge about the 3DS's graphical capabilities.
Now, you may wonder why some games look absolutely stunning, and others not as good: The reason behind this is that not all devs have access to the 3DS's second CPU core, as more than 65% of its power is for the OS and the like. One amazing fact is that the 3DS supports Per-pixel lighting, which can make immensely realistic environments such as those underwater where the sun is reflecting off the ocean floor.

wow, that's amazing. Never thought a handheld would match up a console! Just shows how well Nintendo makes their products. I wonder what the Microsoft/Xbox people make of this then. Kinda embarrassing in a way, no? :p

Yeah the 3ds graphics for certain games are looking great on some games like MHU4 and when in 3D it looks even more awesome plus that is why most people like the 3ds because of the cool graphics of the outstanding games of the 3ds.
