A game to rival Pokemon, Temtem.

If you have noticed recently as I have, Game freak hasn't be the.. best.. towards the pokemon franchise. It doesn't seem like they're putting as much effort in the franchise as they used to.

Well, here's a game that might interest you. Temtem. At a first look, sure, looks like a pokemon ripoff, but it's not. It's taken the idea of pokemon and made it their own. The designs of the temtem are incredibly adorable (screenshots below of some) and also unique. None of them have the feel of "oh that's such and such from pokemon".

The game is currently in the alpha stage, only avalible to buy and play via the discord store currently. However the game is planning to be released onto all platforms and multiple storefronts, and yes, that does include switch.

The game is an MMO, but don't let that deter you. You can customise your character in multiple ways, run around the 6 islands of the game alongside multiple other people, join up in co-op with friends and go through the story together in dual battles, all sorts! There is also a housing system where you can buy your own house and decorate it however you want.

For those competitive pokemon people out there, yes, there is going to be a fully fleshed out competitive scene as well in the game with rank ladders and such. There is also breeding in the game, however it is a bit different to how it is in pokemon. Instead, it's a bit more complicated as you cannot keep breeding the game temtem's over and over again as there is a "genetic degradition" stat which will lower with each egg, and the egg will also inherit the value meaning you will need to plan out the cycles in advance.

I got the game yesterday and I've been really enjoying it. The difficulty increase from pokemon is really clear, it's not a game to just stumble through and just grind until you overlevel your opponent.

Long post, but the TLDR is basically just: Game good. Game very very fun and adorable.
Now to go back to playing it..

Oh great. Now I have to learn a whole new typing chart and deal with terrible breeding mechanics which might determine matches because I don't hear any IV/EV mechanics. I'm also curious on how diverse are the moves as well as level caps.

Nope, there is IVs and EVs they're just called something different. The moves are differnt and also well done, I'm not sure on the breeding cap yet.

I'll restate though, the game is only in alpha atm. Things will change and the current state of the game doesn't reflect the final product.

If anyone's still unconvinced, I bought it the other day and gave it a go, and as someone who is done with Pokemon and the Switch, I can say that Temtem is a real contender for me. It's got everything I like from Pokemon and more.

And there aren't any damn chandelier Pokemon or fridges in it. Actual good designs, good graphics, great animations. Can't wait for it to actually release.

Temtem design and graphics look great, and rankings is good (why don't they add it to Pokemon?), but I'm not sure if it's comparable to Pokemon because it's an MMO, and Pokemon is mostly single player (so they're different experiences).

The game is still playable on your own, the world is just populated so it feels like the world is actually alive, instead of pathed characters doing.... nothing.

It is a different experience overall though, even if it was a singleplayer game.

By the way! Pre-orders are currently open again for this game for the next few hours, after that, it'll be unavalible to buy for a while.

It's games like this that makes me wish I had a pc. I'd wanna try Temtem, the designs look real cute, and I bet the battling will probably bring back a lot of memories of watching my cousins play Pokemon at a young age. :')

I do seriously reccomend it. I'll be trying to pick it up on the switch myself, I've had a blast playing it. I will warn though that even battling is slightly different. The game overall is different to pokemon even though at it's base, it's similar. But I mean that in a really really good way.

Since it's an MMO type game tho I presume it'll require switch online to play. I would hope though there's going to be a singleplayer type mode to the switch version at least though so you can play the game itself even if you wont be able to trade/battle others/play with others. Would be nice if a few of us from here got it though so we can all play together ^^

You know what I'm gonna say to that I still don't understand why you don't hop onto someone's family plan at least for the time being ;-;

Considering it'll be a paid game though, there's a good chance it'll require the online sub. I can ask in the discord for the game about it, but I doubt I'd get a solid answer this early on.
