AC:NL - The Villager
Towns Folk
In a nutshell, Post Modernism is what happens when a work tries to be aware of its existence. When a piece of fiction tells you what it is, that's a very good example.

And I will tell you... ANIMAL CROSSING IS FULL OF IT.

I'll start with a running motif that I keep thinking lately.
The fan theory that Tom Nook represents the Nintendo Company, or at least is the creator of the game.
(Take this in broad strokes, I can't identify it well right now.)
In New Leaf...
Where could you have placed your home? Anywhere. You could place your home anywhere you wanted with open ground. That means Nook's Real Estate already OWNS all of the land within the town. Everyone presumably pays Nook regularly for the land. Next, who ALWAYS owns the primary store in town? Nook. Or his Nooklings.

If you're familiar with Tanuki/Tanooki, the Japanese Raccoon Dog... Then the concept of these items becomes much more interesting. Especially in New Leaf. When you purchase a Green Bench, it turns into a leaf. Tanuki (Tom Nook/Tanuki Lol) could give you all the furniture he wanted, as it costs essentially nothing for him to enchant the leaves into whatever you want. That's where he gets his merchandise. So... He pays you in fake merchandise? That's ridiculous!
Except...It's only natural. You're paying with play money. A proxy of the real thing meant to emulate it. So he pays you a proxy of furniture! It all works to emulate the imaginary economy of a video game.

Next... In New Leaf, where can you set up your leafurniture?
Only within buildings... Enchanted leaves that only work within specific buildings...
Dealt out by Tom Nook.
This makes me think that the leaves only work in buildings set up by Tom Nook.
Which paints the fourth wall in that you could spend ALL of the bells in existence, and it would never be of use to you beyond the land of Mr Nook. Which equates to...
The real world! YAY!

Anyway. These were some of my examples of Post Modernism in the game. Throw more in. This is basically a Wild Mass Guessing thread related to Post Modern themes.

Another example of post-modernism in Animal Crossing could be when you first meet Resetti, in Animal Crossing: City Folk /Let's Go To The City, he says this:
"
Uh, yeah, so, anyway, this is Animal Crossing: City Folk (Let's Go To The City). Thanks for pickin' it up. Appreciate the support."
