Any tips on Competitive Battling/Breeding

So, I'm not a noob when it comes to Pokemon, but I am a noob when it comes to competitive stuff.
So I'm wondering does anybody have any tips on this type of stuff? If so it would really help!
I'm just trying to form my dream team, so I can do some competitive stuff XD!
