Are DLC Characters sent as download codes in Smash 3DS/Wii U?

I was searching and I learned that there is an option to get a discount if you purchase DLC for both Smash versions (Smash 3DS and Smash U). If I purchase the bundle via eShop, will the downloadable content be connected to my Nintendo Network ID or will they send me download codes for both versions to use as I please?

I think it is linked to your NNID but if you dont have a wiiU then you may get a download code I am not sure.

if you download it you will get a download code for the system your not using. Like if you use the 3ds to download it you will give the download code for the wiiu or it might link the content to you wiiu and you will get the code be able to play. Or just give you the download code through you email

If you buy the DLC bundle on the 3DS, it downloads the content in your 3DS and gives you a Wii U download code for you to put in your Wii U.
If you buy the DLC bundle on the Wii U, it downloads the content in your Wii U and gives you a 3DS download code for you to put in your 3DS.

The receipt from downloading the DLC on one system will have a code for you to download onto the other one. I did this with Lucas, I bought him on 3DS and it said the code for him on Wii U was found in the receipt. Checked receipt and scrolled down, found Wii U download code.
