Are Nintendo and Square planning something?

If you saw the recent Nintendo Direct, you probably know about Cloud coming to Smash Bros. But when I watched the trailer, I noticed they didn't really say anything about him being chosen from the Smash Ballot. I personally believe that Cloud was put in as a sign that Nintendo and Square could be planning something together. It could be a new game, it could be to bring the new Final Fantasy VII remake to the new Nintendo console, or it could be for some other reason. I personally believe that Cloud was not chosen from the ballot, but was planned to be in. And I believe that if Nintendo and Square are working together, you could probably expect to see titles such as Mario RPG or Chrono Trigger to be sold on the eshop, and maybe even a sequel to one of those games or both of them. And yes, I know Nintendo and Square haven't seen eye to eye in past years, but they have worked together before and they even made some really great games and stuff, so I'm not going to complain. What do you think about all this? Do you think Nintendo and Square might be planning something? Let me know down below.

Every DLC character thus far has(supposedly)been a promotional thing for an upcoming game. For example:
Lucas=Earbound Origins
Ryu=Streetfighter for the 3DS
Roy=Fire Emblem:Fates
Mewtwo=Probably Mystery Dungeon, maybe Pokken Tournament
and now with Cloud it's the FFVII remake. So yes, it could be that it's coming to the new Nintendo console, or maybe even the WiiU, but i wouldnt get your hopes up. Personally i thought Shovel Knight was coming to Sm4sh because of the physical release of Shovel Knight on multiple consoles, but that's not the case it seems. So while it would be awesome to see the remake on something Nintendo, it doesn't really seem like something they'd do. I'll keep an open mind tho and hope for the best. I never got to play FFVII when I was a kid but if I can get the remake that'd be awesome. No chance of me getting a PS4 just for that though so it's not likely.

Yeah, same here. I never got a chance to play it either. So fingers crossed. Also it's very likely that Shovel Knight could've won the Smash Ballot. I think he was one of the ones almost everyone voted for.

Kind of grasping as straws with those character guesses. They wouldn't put an entire character into Smash Bros. to promote a $6 eShop title (that they haven't mentioned at all since E3, might I add.) There isn't a new Street Fighter coming out on 3DS, and they aren't going to be promoting Street Fighter 4 3D which came out nearly 5 years ago and isn't even available in stores. Unless Street Fighter V is going to come to NX a year or two after it's out on PS4. Roy isn't even in Fire Emblem Fates and Mewtwo was probably planned to be in the game for a while before it even released, they just didn't include him when the game came out because otherwise they would have missed their holiday release.

Okay, granted that i messed up the Street Fighter thing, you don't know if Roy will be in FE:F or not, he was technically playable in FE:A sooo. And maybe mewtwo was planned from the start seeing as he did come by himself, but I stand by my earlier point. And with Shovel Knight, not only was the game $10(not 6) before the physical release, but now it's TWENTY FIVE afterward. Shovel Knight became a big deal to a lot of people. He's even getting an amiibo. The first third party amiibo I may add. Shovel Knight was a prominant canidate in the smash race, not just some indie longshot.

My theory is that it's part of a bigger deal, I'd like to think better of Squeenix, but it's really hard to see them localizing the 3DS Dragon Quest remakes just like that without a little swaying from Nintendo, my little prediction is that those, DQXI localization, and FFVII on NX were in the deal, although that may just be my ideal world talking. Still recovering from the fact that I wake up in the morning and I'm not only able to say "Cloud is in Smash", but also, "Dragon Quest is coming West", and I can't help but feel the two are at least remotely related.
