WAIT! Before you read this I must make clear that I was only having fun with my imagination and that I did not pretend to steal someone work (theory), so if I did I´m sorry.

Now... Shall we start?

There has been a theory about SSB being the imagination of some kid, (let´s just call him Tim to make things easier) and that the playable characters are his toys, we can also understand that the games of SSB follow a storyline in Tim´s childhood, being the kid about 8-10 year in the first game, 12-14 in SSB Melee, 16-18 in Brawl and finally 20-22 in SSB3ds/WU. (There is a more detailed explanation here:
)

What I mean with all this SSB theory is that Mario Kart MAY ocurr in the same game universe. For instance, the Mario Kart games become alive in Tim´s older brothers imagination, since playing with cars is something more of an older kid. My argument to clarify this is that the first SSB game was released on 1999 on Japan, but Mario Kart (first game also) was released in 1992, 7 years before the SSB saga began. My theory is that the MK games are a prequel to SSB, in which the older brother of Tim plays Nintendo games, and since Tim is a typical young brother, he tends to copy what his older brother does, so Tim immerses in the Nintendo world, buying plush toys and statues of game characters, (these appearing in the SSB games) making up imaginary fight with them, creating a fight-to-death-arena.

What do you think about this? At first I thought it was kind of silly, but now I am quite mindblown. Give me your opinion! (Btw the video I linked above is not mine)

That is one mind blowing theory and it does make sense it you think about it or maybe it was just a coincidence but I think if the same person who created MK7 created super smash bros series then it makes the theory more truthful.

Actually yes! The creator of SSB is part of the production team of MK, this can either be a really weird coinsidence, or a hiden message!

Interesting theory. :cat:

I always thought they were in the same world because they both have Nintendo characters going all out at each other without any real story behind it. I didn't seriously go around saying, "SSB and MK are in the same world! Wake up people! :eek: " but I still subconsciously explained to myself that it was the same strange world. :)

Mmmm...

Well, I don't quite believe that they are both in the same world, maybe SSB does exist in some kid's imagination, but, in my headcanon, it doesn't happen in the same world as Mario Kart.

It's just that Mario Kart seems so... Real, compared to SSB, SSB does feel like a little game with copies of real characters, while Mario Kart feels more like the actual Mario (and Donkey Kong) characters just chilling out and playing in go-karts.

The Legend of Zelda and Animal Crossing characters might as well be for fanservice or something, or maybe they did come from their respective worlds, It's not like travel between worlds is a new concept in Zelda and Mario.

But, yeah, nice theory, i wonder if stuff like this will ever get explained in future games...

They actually are in the same Universe people! They belong to nintendo, they share most of the entire line up with each other's game, the stages are also present in both games (of course not in the same way), both of them are like big party games in which all nintendo characters come to have fun or challenge some others, i mean it is like a free space arena where nothing that takes place there influences each character's universe. Is my point clear? So I would talk about two universes, one which is from the place the character belongs to, and the other would be ssbb and mk.

I'm going to blurb out the first thing that came to my mind while reading this (I had already seen the video a while back), so here goes.

I think that Mario Kart is the imagination of an adult male. It could be Tim's father, but that isn't really important. He's always loved cars but when he hit his mid-life crisis he wanted a motorcycle.

man what am I sayin

I don't really like theories all that much. While some are VERY interesting (like the Smash one) some are just pointless. Not every game needs a creepy sad backstory.
