I've watched the Pokémon shows for some time now, and I've always wondered why Ash Ketchum doesn't catch every new Pokemon he sees. Face it, almost every Pokemon episode and movie has had at least one legend incorporated into it, most of the time nothing's even happening to it, Ash wants to be a Pokemon master, so why doesn't he just have Pikachu stun the dang thing and then throw an ultra ball at it. Overall, I think ash needs to follow up on his dreams more:p

Good point! Bump it up for u

Because if he does become the Pokemon master then how will the show "continue"? Granted they keep churning out a new batch of Pokemon per generation and they could always go the game route but as it stands they don't wish to stray from the Ash formula.

As for legendaries, a good majority of the time he's actually helping the legendary in question escape/not get caught by the baddie. Just turning around and throwing a ball at it would not only be rude at that point but also just completely random. Could you imagine Mewtwo's "I see now" speech suddenly and abruptly being cut off with a Pokeball? I can think of a few ways of how that could end badly.

Yeah, good point, but I guess it is good to keep the game's plot different from the shows, but who knows, maybe the Pokemon company will decide to end the series where ash becomes a pokemon master. I guess it is up to the Pokemon company to decide.

"I wanna be the very best like no one ever was" - digimon theme song

"Pika pika... Pikachu"- squirtle

"I believe in the heart of the cards"- ash

I'm pretty sure everyone knows Ash is the worst Pokemon trainer ever. I liked the anime before Black and white started, now it's horrible. I wish the anime would just end or go to another character. I would love to see a Fire Emblem anime instead of continuing the Pokemon anime

This very formula is one of the reasons the Pokemon anime sucks so much. Realistically, you'd expect Ash to be ome of the most skilled and experienced Trainers ever, but he isn't thanks to the sloppy way they attempt to reboot the series every time he goes on a new region, by almost literally dumbing down his skills and growth, this is a really cheap and unrealistic way of keeping up the familiarity of a series.

Optimally, they'd have a completely new protagonist every new generation, but they apparently missed the memo and decided to do this abomination of a plotline.

That seems to be the case but realistically, most of the time Ash just doesn't know what he's dealing with. The kid's moving from one region to the next and at best has minimal knowledge of the new Pokemon in terms of typing, moves and other stuff he hasn't seen yet. A good parallel would be to compare a gamer who hasn't played Pokemon since Gen I/II and just got back into Gen VI. Aside from previous knowledge they won't fare too well until they get a grip on it later.

This of course doesn't completely excuse all of Ash's blunders but it does give a reason to his "stupidity" each new season/region.

Well, seeing how Ash just recently lost the Pokemon League again, I think it's safe to say Ask probably won't be becoming a Pokemon Master for a long, long time, if even ever >.<
I expect that the anime will continue into the Alola Region with a new boy and girl tagalong for more friendship adventures, but I'm not sure how the Pokemon League will work if the rumors I've heard about the Alola Region not having gyms are true. 0.0

Well Ash just lost the recent league as well and he is not going to become a Pokemon master anytime soon because all the trailers we have seen of the Sun and Moon and even the Anime trailer I don't think there would be gyms in Alola. Also in Sun and Moon anime Ash will be going to school and his goal will be to graduate.
