Hello guys! So I am like the last human on Earth to start watching Attack on Titan. I watched the first episode of it and there is something that has been bothering me. So you know the sad yet powerful scene where Eren's mom is stuck under the debris and she gives Eren and Mikasa to Hannes, leaving herself to get eaten by the Smiling Titan? Well, The way I see it, she could have still been alive. Think about it. When Eren and Mikasa go to save her. They move one plank but the other one is too heavy for them. However, Hannes is an adult and a guard at that. Couldn't he have helped lift the rest of the debris to save her? Also, Kalura says that even if she gets out, her legs are broken, yet when she is picked up by the Titan, she can be seen kicking her legs to get free. Why did she lie? We may never know. I might make a video or something on this, but you never know. Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? I am curious as I am new to this anime and this scene puzzles me.

It would take too long to lift the debris and carry her away from the incoming titans. Also, she could have broken parts of her legs and still been able to move them, yet not walk with them. Just my humble opinion. :) Also, even a full grown adult wouldn't be able to lift large debris if it's been lodged in something. Hannes could also have more thoughts of killing the titan than of "Oh, I should just lift this thing,".

Or, you know, just lazy writing. :cat:

Hehe. I believe that lazy writing is to blame. Oh well. On episode 5 now. Wish me luck on this journey of non logic :cat:

I know, this anime is crazy, but I can't stop watching. I think I'm hooked. :)

I love this anime! But to be honest I don't even have faith in the Garrison, it's clear their just a bunch of cowards. Though I don't think I could have left my mom. Even with the Titans....I guess that's why I'd join the Scouting Legion.

I think that it was basically what NeoFang had said >.> I really also felt sad watching the first episode of Attack on Titan but when you think about it , that death was the reason why Eren wanted to kill all the titans , it really made the anime more epic actually :p

Hannes should have tried to kill the titan though. It was his duty.

Hannes regrets not killing the titan/saving her, he made that clear, and if you read past the end of the anime in the manga you find out what happens there. I won't spoil it. It'll be in season two.

If you really like Attack on Titan, you can read the manga free online. It is still being written, but there is already like, a whole season to read. It gets pretty crazy and informative, you can find out why titans eat people, the history of the wall and church, and so on. I recommend reading on.

Eren's mother had to die for the story. She probably would not have been able to walk, I don't think that is a lie. He needed a reason to want to go into the army so badly, and it made him the angsty character he is. It also set up a story with Hannes.

It's a sad story, but that makes you watch it.
