Baseball bat or the fan.
While the baseball bat deals a 1HKO if used correctly, the fan, while the damage dealt is low, deals many hits in no time. You just have to finish your opponents after.

Sure, all those other things are nice, but my personal favorite is the Ore Club. When you charge that thing, it smashes anyone in it reach, and then sends a tornado to hit everyone else in its path! Ultimate item.

The machine gun/rocket-launcher-if-you-hold-the-A-button thingamijig. You don't change direction while firing it, which is really quiet convenient. I also like the autofire on tapping, and when it runs out of ammo you can throw it at the other guy And it has a funny side - when it runs out of ammo you can still keep pulling the trigger and it goes click-click-click

Hammer! Hammer! Hammer! It's probably the most effective, deadly and scary-character-looking-making weapon in the game

Masterball (brings out legendary super powers pokemon like arceus and entei)
The bat (there is a secret about this bat so don't judge a book by its cover)
The smash gun (where you have to collect all three pieces and when complete does a super power beam)
The aiming thing (the thing where you also have to collect all 3 pieces and you aim for your opponents ,every time it hits it delivers a OHKO)
The hammer
The star (makes you invincible for a short period of time)

I really like the hammers as you said, specially the user who posted that every time he/she heard the music she/he asked for help. But my favourite of all time are the pokeballs, you never know what pokemon will appear and if it is Snorlax, you would better be on the opposide edge of the stage.

My favourite item is the Hammer, as I love the sheer power and KO potential of that thing. Nothing beats KO'ing an enemy at 20% with that Hammer
Oh, and I also love the Squeaky Hammer. People do not realize that it is a Squeaky one, and they run away from you. When only do you get a hit on them, it goes "Squeak" and the laughs are so satisfying

Falco's blaster in Melee and Project M. Allows Falco to move towards the opponent while applying hitstun from the distance, which means free vulnerability. Can also gimp people trying to recover.
