Hi, everyone!
(I'm new to the forums and will get a spiffy avatar icon soon, don't worry)
I would like to discuss something which I've wanted to talk about on my YT channel for quite some time but haven't gotten a chance to.
Before I ask this question, I'd like to preface this post by saying I am NOT a Ninten-doomed person or someone who unrealistically expects a corporation to cater only to me. I also reject the notion that Nintendo only makes games for children. And I LOVE Mario, Kirby, DK, and Yoshi games like anyone else.
However, it has come to my attention that, with the exception of some surprise "2nd-party" exclusives (Bayonetta, Devil's Third), Nintendo's internal development teams could have at least a few titles that were more "age-neutral".
What I mean by that term is, games with characters that are not cartoony or silly-looking but also not too violent or difficult so children can enjoy them as well. Examples of Nintendo franchises I consider "age-neutral": F-Zero, Metroid, Mach Rider (would love to see this series rebooted), Eternal Darkness, Excite series, Endless Ocean, Fire Emblem, Wave Race, Xenoblade series, Sin & Punishment, and even Star Fox and Zelda (to an extent).
Now, as I'm writing this, I do realize Nintendo has relaunched a few of these titles, and that's great. But I still feel that, especially on Wii U, Nintendo could put a little more focus on these kind of games to attract some of the more mature demographics in gaming.
Remember, folks, the average gamer is in their 30s, so I don't think it's such a radical idea to try to appeal to some of these folks too. And yes, I know Star Fox and Zelda are coming. I'm not complaining, I'm pumped! Just a question for the community:
Would you like to see more "age-neutral" titles from Nintendo to round out the more family-oriented fare? Or would you be happy with reboots and new ips, regardless of their visual style?
