Revived? It’s not dead! WarioWare Gold just released and there are more games on the way! (Persona Q 2, Mario and Luigi Bowser’s Inside story remake, etc.) I don’t think the 3ds will ever sell as good as the switch or be super popular again but many people still use it. It’s a great console that can play an insane amount of games (Every 3ds and Ds game, plus virtual console for Gameboy, Gbc, and 10 gba games. Also nes and snes games!). At it’s price point it’s certianly a viable console (70$ for a 2ds!) and Nintendo will probably keep seeling it as long as people are buying it.

But even still the switch is the future. The 3ds won’t have too many more killer apps ans the switch will. 3ds is on it’s way out, but it’s not bad way out. It’s not forgotten. It’s still one of the best consoles of all time in my opinion, and it will be remembered and the console that carried nintendo through the dark Wii U era.

deep.

All consoles "die" with time, however, it is wrong to think that the 3DS is anything but alive. Is getting new releases as often as ever, which is impressive for a console that is over 7 years old. Games are still being sold, the online connectivity is still there and will be there, and more importantly, the console's community is still alive and expanding. It also has one of the best catalogs of any Nintendo console, only being beaten by the Wii.

Its also important that the 3DS fulfills a niche that no other console in the market can (not even the switch): A portable but cheap console, to the point that a teen could save up money for a while and buy a 2DS or even a New 2DS XL with a bit of extra time. The fact that a completely new model got released about a year ago shows that Nintendo still cares about this thing, and why wouldn't they? It keeps selling and so far nothing can fulfill the niche it has

Tbh I love my 3DS but I do wish they'd stop developing for it and go purely with Switch. The 3DS used really old graphics tech, even when it came out. It had a ludicrously old version of OpenGL, for instance. It's a pain to port for because it's so underpowered compared to everything else including Vita. Personally, I'd rather play my Switch anyway. Better screen, better graphics, better tech, I can hook it up to my TV, it's region free, etc.

3DS had a great run but I think it's time to move on. Or at least, have simultaneous releases between Switch and 3DS. I guess anything heavily relying on the 2 screens would need to design around that but games like Detective Pikachu could have easily come out on both platforms.

I mean, imo I actually prefer the 3ds to the switch. Don't get me wrong, I love both. However the 3ds just has a lot more games on it, and it's easier to take out and about since it's smaller, and has a much much longer battery life.

It's gonna be like the wii imo. Even when it's fully unsupported and such, there's still gonna be games that come out for it and people are still gonna be playing on it.

But yeah, there's still a lot of people that play on the 3ds, and the switch was never intended to overtake the 3ds or to replace it in any way. So it's gonna stick around for a while longer, especially since the new 2ds xl came out not very long ago.

The original Game Boy lasted 10 years.
Let that sink in. A full decade, and then some.
The 3DS has been around for 7 years. If it goes the same way as the Game Boy, then that's at *least* 3 more years of life, before it's officially declared dead. 3DS has a good niche right now, and the fact that games are *still* coming out for it means Nintendo is not yet ready to completely let it go yet. I think we've got at least 2 more years.

Don't forget the Wii lasted a long time too. How many years did it survive exactly?

Honestly, there’s no way I’m gonna believe that the 3DS is dead, not yet anyway. It’s still got first party games coming out, so that should say something. It’s one of Nintendo’s most successful consoles besides the Switch, so do you think they’re gonna stop trying to make money off a system that still sells quite well?

It's not gone yet and is still going pretty strong. There will be a time when it will be hard to get is and it's games due to people going over bored with price but right now it still easy to get a lot of the stuff for it. I hope to get a 2nd system and the last of the games I want for it before it starts to get that way but I am sure it will still be a good while before it starts to dwindle that much. There are those that think it is that way but I think it still has maybe a year or two more into it at most before we could call it dead.

It's dead in the sense that we won't see too many major Nintendo games release on the 3ds anymore, but it's marketing potential isn't dead yet, especially for the $79 2ds. If I had a kid or was traveling around the 2ds would be a great option since it's zero guilt if it's lost or broken.

The 3ds as a system still makes Nintendo a lot of money, so I doubt they'll completely stop selling the hardware until the Switch has a good chunk of sold hardware.

It's still quite popular. PS-Vita is considered dead, 3DS is still getting decent support and games. I think 3DS is in a good place right now. A few decent game releases and it's gonna go up high once again.

Surprisingly, the latest games for the Wii were Let's Sing 2019 and Just Dance 2019, and they released in October 2018.
The Wii Shop Channel shut down on January 30th, 2019.
The Wii released on November 19th, 2006 (December 9th 2006 here in the UK).
That means the Wii lasted 12 years.
And if Just Dance 2020 makes it into the Wii... it'll increase to 13 years.

Let THAT sink in.

Well what a surprise...
Just Dance 2020 is releasing on the Wii.
probably for the last time

There's a lot of good apps and games that can be found cheap on the console. If it not were for my broken circle pad I might even play the handheld more. That being said if it's not time dependent inputs or anything other than Smash I wouldn't play it again. The thing is the gimmick 3D hasn't been done again and hopefully Nintendo or a third party can do repairs. Online play is free and easy to get into. That being said the Switch has a bigger screen and for the most part better controls AND replaceable controls. Even still if you like x game that isn't on the Switch like WarioWare then you can still find the 3DS in a neat niche. Just don't try streaming 3DS anytime soon because those capture/software mods to do that are really expensive. It can be revived. Just know that hardware might drag it down unless the next system has reverse compatibility.

Woah... the Wii managed to live past the Wii U?

...Maybe not entirely, but close enough. About a two year gap or so... close enough, I guess.

well technically cuz of the game Just Dance. That's the only game that kept it alive, (maybe still keeping it alive). However, Just Dance is also on the Switch, and the Switch has Joycons much similar to those wii sticks, so, the wii might have finally met it's match.

When did it become not-popular? It's one of the most successful handheld consoles out there.

Even if games aren't coming out for it currently, I still think its pretty popular and useful. There's a huge library of games for the 3ds and I've still barely gotten through them. It is definitely not as popular as it was before, but its certainly not dead :p
