Can you play ssb for 3ds on download play

I was wondering if you can play smash bros on download play so I can play with my friend that not has the game

I think you can play smash bros 3ds with download play, but your friend would only have access to the single player and local multiplayer content most likely. I apologize in advance if i'm wrong, though.

No, unfortunately, you must have two copies of the game in order to do multiplayer features. :/

I don’t understand why Nintendo did it that way, most likely for tons of money since the game was a hit when it first released. It’s sad, but hey, it happens. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
