Captcha verifcation, what is it

My friend wants to sign up for this site but he can not, what exactly is the captcha? He tried so much times and still did not get it. Can you tell me what the captcha is?

Captcha Verification is like something where you have to type in a sequence of numbers or a word so that you the human can be verified . It is usually easy so if your friend doesn't understand the number/word , there is a redo button thing that changes the word/number . If that doesn't help I would suggest going to your friend.

Jup that's it. Most of the time there is also a speaker icon. Click on it and you'll hear someone say the word/number. Maybe that could help?

Captchas are easy most of the time, and even if he's blind (maybe that's the case), as @PersonSP said, there's a speaker icon to hear the words/numbers to type in.

And they're made to avoid bots from signing up, but, actually, I doubt it's that effective (but, I'm thinking of ways to counter them actually...).
