CGI/Computer Generated Special Effects

I think you should only use them to enhance effects that actually already were there during the filming.
Now lets say,you have made something with Stop Motion,but it looks off,then you should add digital effects to it.
For example,for the Xenomorph in Alien,3 different Models were used:A guy in a costume,a model just for the look and computer animation.
The Star Wars Prequels are a great example for why you never should overuse Digital Effects.
EVERY SCENE has a digital effect,which makes the films look pretty crappy.
So,what is your opinion on Computer Generated Effects in Films?
