Hi peeps :D

Let's have a nice little flame war...

Jkjk, so, you know how there's 2 "main" animation styles, CGI (Examples: Frozen and Tangled) and traditional animation (Examples: The Princess and the Frog, Spirited Away)

Both of these have their pros and cons, which one's your favorite and why? :3

Mine, in particular, is traditional animation as, though more expensive, it feels like more work was done on it than on CGI, and translates the artist's style much better, plus, it tends to age more gracefully than CGI.

Opinions? >.<)/

I prefer traditional animation. Like you said, it really does hold up much better over time. I have nothing against CG, heck I'm taking a few classes in computer graphics right now. But, take a look at an episode of, say, Reboot and compare it to an episode of Huckleberry Hound.

Both were very early animated shows for their style, yet Reboot's then very innovative and fresh style now looks like something made in MS Paint. Hound, on the other hand, still looks like something professionally made. It's resolution may be a bit off, but get your hands on the original frames and it looks like it was made last week.

Now, like I said, I'm not ragging on CG. Nor am I saying hand drawn is the only way to go. Both have their places in film and on television. If it's a throwaway kid's movie, CG would be better as the film was made just to make money. Hand drawn animation should be used when trying to create a timeless classic.

I usually prefer traditional animation instead of CGI, but I guess a mix of both would be better. Like using 3D model but draw the expressions and a few lines over them. The best of two worlds.

Depends
If its high budget, cgi can look good
if its low budget, youll feel like you are looking at the firy pits or hell.
I myself prefer traditional tho,cgi still is stuck somewhere in the uncanny valley in my eyes

I'm not a big fan of CGI. I love traditional more because I love cartoons.

I don't mind CGI considering so many movies use it, but traditional makes a movie more than a movie, it becomes a work of art. A huge example Cat In Paris. If you haven't seen that movie a highly recommend it, it is purely animated and is just gorgeous, it also has good plot and even without the animation it would be a great movie, but the beauty of the animation takes it to another level. A lot of the movies made by the studio did My Neighbor Totero (Studio Ghilbi) are like that true. They are purely animated and again, are works of art and phonemail movies not just because of the animation, but because of everything else.
