Personally, I blieve that all Zelda games exist separately, in their own realities and planes of existence. Basically, every game besides Ocarina of time and Mojoras mask are entirely independent from each other. There are just too many differences between games for them to be related.

There was a similar topic yesterday that I read about how most 'Links' are descendants of other Links, so that not every one is the same. So, your theory could be somewhat correct. While most of them seem to take place in Hyrule or somewhere close, I believe the theory that maybe there is a new Link each time. A family tree of Links..hm..

That would make stuff more simpler. Let's just go with that. I never understood where are the different links came from anyway Lol.

I agree though. I think they are not related. How could a tiny to on link, transform into a mature adult looking one :p?

Well, the theory I have is that each Link is a new person, a descendant of the last Link (with the exception of a few, such as the Oracle games and LA having the same Link and OoT and MM having the same one too). My only issue, though, with any theory like this is how the gap between OoT and WW works out... I'm not quite sure how it works, but I'd guess that maybe the title of Hero got passed to another family after Zelda sent Link back to his childhood.

Well, Hyrule Historia kinda explains that.
"Zelda" and "Link" are just titles passing through generations. Yes, there are other dimensions like Termina, but every Link is a descendant of another.

It's kinda confusing when you first think of this at first. But it gets clearer when you see the Hyrule Histioria . Its full of the generations and facts that are worth looking into and Of course . all the Links can't be the same . So there are many descendants of Link that are totally different and that's what makes this series so cool.

Many people have said things about hyrule historia, but that book was really designed to help connect the zelda games that already existed. The timeline was created afterward, at least I believe it was. There are still too many gaps for it to be 100% accurate

Well, of course there are inaccuracies in the timeline. With new games being added into the mix, it's kinda hard figuring out where exactly they fall in the lineup. I mean, yeah, you can figure out that said game is in this part of the timeline, but as to what games come before and after the specific one you're looking at, that's where the challenge is.

It's pretty clear at least that certain universes are related, like Twilight Princess and Ocarina. For some of the others though, like Link to the Past it's pretty vague. I like to think they all are related though. Makes the game more epic.

I got a book called Hyrule Historia, whicc contains important and interesting facts about the Zelda universe. In the book, there is also an official timeline. I think this is the correct one, because it Connects the games in a good way. But there is one flaw. There are 3 different split timelines in ocarina of time. One when Link defeats ganon and stays an adult, one where Link defeats ganon and Returns to being a child. And one where Link gets game over. It is possible to die in every zelda game, so why is ocarina of time the only game that gets an extra timeline for that?

I think it's because of Link's Time Travels. Time Travel can create infinite possibilities, and Nintendo just decided that 3 of them would be canon (maybe?).

Like @Bluefoot said, new games are always coming to the Zelda series, and they created different timelines to explain the different incarnations of Link and the worlds they live.

I love the Zelda timeline. I use it but I also like how there are holes in it too, lives mystery...
