So controls have always been big in games especially smash. But because any controller ideal for using is already useable in the WII U version, this will focus in the 3DS.
In case you don't know (or haven't figured out it isn't that hard), smash 3ds only has 1 way to control the game and that's through the 3ds. You can't plug in a GameCube remote or a wii classic controller (what I use). So a big chunk of players how use those controls are now not as great. Link and Mario were my main in Brawl but because of the new control layout, my main is Zero Suit Samus.
What do you think of the controls?

It's because you're not used to the controls. Though I wouldn't have minded being able to play SSB4 3DS with a GC controller, I think the 3DS controls are good enough, and easy to get used to (at least for me). The only problem I'm facing is that the 3DS sometimes confuses the dash attacks and the Side Smashs attacks, but I guess it's because I tilt the circle pad too fast.

The controls are easy to get to grips with and aren't too complicated (from my experience). So, no complaints from my end. ;)

I can get used to any controls really. Games played on the PC, the GCN, the Wiimotes sideways, and the 3DS with any button configuration but usually the default one. I think knowing how the character moves is more important than how comfortable it feels to use just a certain character because the game is about doing as many crazy things as possible to win. Because shorthopping is hard I might benefit from a character that doesn't need to jump a lot if I would be facing the best of the best.

I think that the controls on the 3DS are better and easier for me. When I first got the demo they did take time to get used to, because I had never played on a handheld. On the Wii version every time I didn't play for a while the controls were confusing cause there's way to many attacks and buttons. Also on the Wii I used the Wii remote and nunchuck, cause I just could never get used to the game cube controller. I find the 3DS the best way to play IMO

My only gripe with the controlls is that I cant map movement to the dpad. I think using the dpad opens up a whole other realm of precise control for inputs, which this game needs imo. Other than that, the controls feel really good to me.
