I'd suggest posting this in the Nookling Junction. I play 3DS, but you might have luck finding people who play the Wii U version there.

From the index page of the forum, you'll see Town Billboard. One of its sub-forums is the Nookling Junction.

Edited: There you can create a challenge thread and battle other members for an agreed amount of Play Coins. If you win, you get the agreed amount of Play Coins from the challenger. If you lose, you'll have to pay the challenger the agreed amount of Play Coins.

You can follow them (it's similar to the friends system on other forums, sort of). When you follow a member, you can see an icon of their avatar in the "who is online" list (right sidebar on the index page of the forum) whenever they're online.
