Do Square Enix and Game Freak have something in common?

They no doubt have the same melody and theme. Can someone explain this? Maybe people from GF worked on Chrono Trigger or the remake or maybe GF was lazy or maybe GF appreciates RPG music or there's some deeper meaning. GF didn't slack when making these games and added a whole new layer of lore.
And also do you think Nascour's outfit is based off Riku's?

They sound somewhat familiar, but other than that, I think these instances are both coincidences. I DO know that some staff personnel at Game Freak use to work at Monsters Inc., the same developer behind the Mother/Earthbound series, another classic RPG.

Well I think that's fairly well known and kinda off topic.

Whoops, you are right. Allow me to explicate the underlying implications of what I meant in my previous post regarding the overall topic to prevent digression.

Game Freak develops RPG's (Earthbound and Pokemon). Square Enix develops RPG's (Final Fantasy among others). Therefore, it is not rare for companies to view what the other has produced in an attempt to fuel competition (in this case the RPG genre). Basically, whether by coincidence or not, Game Freak probably drew minor influences from Square Enix (or vice versa) when developing their titles. And some can see it as copying, ripoff, or maybe even as a homage, as with the Nascour/Riku character. But to respond to the topics main query, I do not think that Game Freak and Square Enix have much in common with each other save for contributions to the RPG genre. Although, this is just my theory.

Well Genius Sonority made the GCN Pokémon games (Colosseum/XD) so are they anyway related to Square Enix? I think they have at least something to do with it if not the Pokémon Company or GameFreak.

That makes sense, actually. Genius Sonority developed both Pokemon console games, but their résumé also includes Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest and Chrono Trigger share a few staff members on the their development team. That must be why that particular Pokemon's theme is similar to that of the Chrono Trigger's. A homage maybe?
