Do the anime art styles match? ~

Sooo, @Marc and I were having a fiery argument mature debate about anime art styles >.>

Argumentz of each side:

What
rawrrie said:

The art styles from K-On and Tamako Market are very similar to eachother but the art style from Love Live doesn't match Tamako Market and K-On. (the eyes for the Love Live art style don't match as closely as K-On and Tamako Market do).

What Marc said:
The art styles of Tamako Market, Love live and K-On are all very closely similar to eachother. (including the eyes).

Here is a quick glance of art styles:

Art styles in anime are relevant to the illustration method used to make them. There are many different ways to illustrate the same thing, but each one is different depending on the genre. K-On and Tamako Market use a very similar method, but not exactly the same. Tamako Market has more emphasis on the shadow effects, making it seem a bit more "mina"-like (for everyone, in case you don't know the meaning) and being aimed at a wider audience. K-On uses the standard illustration methods introduced in 2005, closely resembling Tamako Market, but it has one specific trait that is unique to it, it almost always uses black outlines, instead of colored ones. Love Live, however, uses the illustration methods introduced in 2009, which are aimed at an audience of ages from 11 to 17, contrary to the other two. Now, that stupid argument you made about the eyes, have you forgotten that these are based on mangas? You seem to be forgetting that there are specific rules and guidelines to follow when drawing a manga and the eyes, as well as everything else, are made by following these, meaning that more or less they will look the same. From the rough sketch the manga drawing style suggests, the mangaga can then make alterations and/or additions to differentiate them from the rest. If you notice carefully, when the eyes shine or glisten for example, that effect will be applied to a different part of the eye. Still, it's impossible to keep them different from everything else, thus the confusion over something as trivial as this. To answer your question, each one uses different drawing styles, but they do have similarities, as that is normal, and Tamako Market and K-On are very similar, and they also have an equally similar style to Love Live!

PS: Just a piece of advice. NEVER try to determine art styles through fanart!

@Tho, Forgive me for not educating myself on the entire history of Mangaka before posting this thread.

Y-you contradicted yourself >.< I don't even know what to believe anymore xD

I wasn't aware, as previously mentioned. Tell me, have you forgotten about manners?

P.S. my turn for a piece of advice. NEVER discourage others or insult on this website. It's against the rules. Think about feelings before you go around calling something stupid okay? It's called tact. You're old enough to understand that. ^-^

Where did I contradict anything I said? What I said is actually that K-On and Tamako Market are similar, but not too much, and that Love Live is only partially similar to these two, but deviates more from them. I just used justification for what I said, but I guess it got too complicated. Anyway, that's the answer you are looking for.

@rawrrie , you can remove the spoiler after you read it.
Now, I didn't discourage anyone or insulted this website at any point. You just jumped at that conclusion, so let me give you a linguistics lesson. One of the meanings of the word "stupid" is "useless/needless and idiotic" at the same time. You'll understand the first part once you read on, so for now just let me explain the meaning of "idiotic". It comes from the word "idiot", which is used to describe a person who only bases his actions on personal beliefs and does not consider or even acknowledge the ideas of those around him or the facts (refuses to look for them himself either), mostly because of selfishness, but not always. To sum up, it's idiotic because the person lacks the knowledge on something, then starts arguing with someone over that topic and that makes it useless, as there is no basis behind it. Add those two and you get stupid. Simple as that.

I'm not mad, chill out :p

Just watch what you say cause it may offend people even tho you don't mean it :c
I don't really want to go by your definition of things so I'll just leave it~

I'd say that Tamako Market and K-On's art styles match, it's the eyes and sometimes tiny fingers. As for Love Live, not so much but quite similar, the eyes are a bit different but a bit similar.

P.S. I voted for rawrz~ :p

Both K-On! and Tamako Market were animated by KyoAni, and since K-ON! was one of their bigger successes, it makes sense they would closely resemble each other, however the only thing they share with Love Live is their "moe" aesthetic, the character designs look nothing alike.

I think the the artstyles are all pretty similar, because they all have we-are-supposed-to-be-teenagers-but-we-look-like-tiny-kids moe look :p The only major difference I can see is the colour of Love Live is much more vibrant :3

Usually, anime art styles have to do with several factors. One major one would be the studio.

Like what Lios said, Kyoto Animation made K-On and Tamako Market. KyoAni's art style has been rather consistent since the release of K-On. If you look at all the other works they have done after 2007ish, you will see the same eyes and same character designs. Another company I think has a distinct art style is A-1. When they adapt some material, sometimes the art will look very similar like Sword Art Online, Magi, IM@S, Working!, etc.

I never watched Love Live, but they were probably just trying to make the idols look very cute and decided to use that style. Although there are similarities, it's hard to say that Love Live looks as much as K-On as Tamako market does if hat makes sense.

No problem for the... eh... I don't know what I did!

But basing my opinion only on the provided pictures, I think they do look similar yes.
