items can be fun they make local play fun and trying to dodge pokemon and assist trophies makes me have a friendly competition and ruin friendships especially WHEN YOUR FRIEND GETS THE FREAKING SMASH BALL THAT I HIT TO HIM ARGHHHH
 
Honestly, I almost never play with items. They can just screw up the match! lets say you are winning 3-2 and its down to ten seconds then your opponent gets 2 BEETLE ITEMS IN A ROW AND THEY BOTH HIT! (P.S. this happened to me) which is why I turn all items off except smash ball becauseits the only item I can stand. It is also why I stick to for glory mode 1 vs 1 mode.
 
I know I only play with items if I'm playing with friends but I like to play online with smash ball but I only play with items if my friend begs me to put on items otherwise I play without items so it is more challenging and more competitive
 
Items are okay when you get tired of no items, and want to have fun. I use it sometimes to level the playing field with my friend because he can't beat me 1vs1 and it's boring kicking his butt all the time.

I really hate when he starts talking smack when he beats me sometimes with items, and be getting lucky, but w/e
I prefer to play without items though, really makes you learn what your character can do, and makes you less dependant on items to win games online.
 
Yeah, in Brawl items were fun because everybody had a Wii system and 2 controllers so you could play with 4 and items were really fun back in the day.

In this game they aren't, because this game is competitive in my opinion. On the Wii U it could be different though.
 
I actually prefer to play with items, they make the game more fun and unpredictable in my opinion. Doesn't mean I can't play without them, I just prefer an air of unpredictability when I play games along with tactics and strategies.
 
I like to play with items, lots of times they can tip the balance of the game once i was playing with ZSS(zero suit samus) and i got a smash ball if you did not know her final smash is getting into a ship and being able to shoot a bunch of times, I gave the other guy 5 KO's :D And i was loosing before so i like to do items like that.

Not really, to be honest. It's half of the reason why (the other is because all of that mode is timed and I despise timed matches) I never touch the For Fun mode.

I can stand them in Classic Mode and when playing with friends occasionally, but I've rarely put them all on myself. Maybe sometimes I'd just set on Master Balls, Mega Mushrooms or even Bob-ombs, but apart from that I don't use them and generally prefer them off for the most part as I tend to have more enjoyable battles like that.

I like items simply because they add to the chaos. I don't see Smash as a button-masher, but I've never seen it as a competitive game. Items are fun. I don't think i've ever removed them before. :)

Items are great for the four-player matches. In 1-on-1 battles, Items NEED to be turned off. My personal item preference for four-player matches are all explosives, master ball, final smash, and assist trophy.

When I'm playing seriously, i dont use items. That way you can see if you really improve controlling your favorite SSB character by winning using your combos and not defending on any items.
