I feel like, weird as it sounds, gen 1 might be more likely than gen 4. The gen 4 games can still be played on the current Nintendo handheld, the (New) 3DS, since it has compatibility with DS games. The last gen 1 remakes can only be played on an older DS that has GBA support or any of the GBA systems. That's excluding HeartGold and SoulSilver, which feature the Kanto region, but they're technically gen 2 remakes and not solely the Kanto region.
That said, if they did remake gen 1, I'd prefer a Yellow remake. It's a completely different experience from the traditional game of "choose a Fire, Water, or Grass type starter, then go on a journey and occasionally battle your rival who has the opposite type starter than you, and beat the E4," and it's instead "hey, you start with a Pikachu and your rival has an Eevee, and this makes the game slightly harder since you're already at a disadvantage against the first gym unless you catch Pokemon along the way."
