End of the world? No. I think the franchise may be remembered for long long long long long long after everyone currently alive is gone, but eventually there's going to be a cutoff point.

Um, not forever. Especially not till the end of the world, it will be acknowledged and might stay around for a few years to come but the way I see the franchise evolving the cut-off point may be closer than we think, who knows, it definitely won't stay around forever.

It won't stay around forever. I think it will stay for a long time but maybe Nintendo will get a new jerk of a CEO who wants to take the company in a different direction or gaming becomes one of those 'insider' things and fewer and fewer people are left to appreciate the franchise or people's tastes change and people stop appreciating Mario. "He's 200 years old, for Heaven's sake, Grandma, I just want you to buy me Call of Duty 9384!"

nah, not forever. Nintendo won't be able to keep up the Mario Franchise for that long. xD

maybe it will last several years at least. As long there are new ideas for Mario games.

TO INFINITY... AND BEYOND!

I think Mario will go down in history as a memorable icon. It might be used in metaphorical relationships as we currently do with Romeo & Juliet (in regards to love). Hopping like Mario... etc.

Nah, that's works another way.

When run out of ideas just add HD, 3D, Director's Cut to game title and sell it again ;)

Maybe until the world turns post-apocalyptic. But never to the end of spacetime.

This is a life lesson. Nothing lasts forever except for your soul. Be accustomed to change.

I really don't see it as sticking around forever. As it is, Nintendo is losing more and more people. While the memory of Mario may stick around forever, the franchise will not.

^ Agreed. I think it will be around for a while longer, but Nintendo is definitely (noticeably) losing fans. They'll soak it a few more times I think, and then who knows after that..

Well, there's no way for nintendo to make mario games live forever till the end of the world, i mean by the time the producer and voice of mario are gone, the company will be in critical state, causing shut down to the company. Sega stopped the console development since they can't get the good stuff for game developing, there more dreamcast games on developed till this day by fans of the dreamcast (which is amazing).

Mario is the most known gaming mascot. He is extremely popular but he is losing popularity. He will die out eventually and when that happens nintendo will come up with something new and exciting. I don't play mario too often but it is always a fun time when I do play, especially if I am playing multiplayer like New super mario bros Wii or something.

I believe that mario is one of the most if not THE most famous video game icon. Kind of like Reid Butler or Elvis, who are still remembered after 60-80 years, mario is the main icon of the entire scope of the video game universe. Heck, he's even called "Mr. Video Game." Even Master Chief doesn't hold that lofty rank. I mean, 30 years? That's more than TWICE the number of years as Call of Duty. Will Nintendo continue to make Mario games forever? Likely the answer is NO. But without Mario, Nintendo is nothing more than a company that throws out cheap, sleek-looking plastic boxes with hardware inside every 6-7 years. Without Mario, nintendo is just another kid on the block. Without Mario, what would nintendo do? Try to make another revolutionary mascot? That would require a miracle. Mario games might not last forever, but the red-and-blue clad Italian plumber will live on in the hearts of gamers for decades, maybe even centuries to come.

Mario will probably live until the end of time. I think if Nintendo keeps up with making "new" Mario games every now and then, Nintendo fans (and pretty much everyone in the universe who has heard of Mario and can afford it) will buy the "new" games, and then it will be an endless cycle of lots of Marios and every now and then a Luigi. Maybe Nintendo will feature Peach in more games like Super Princess Peach. :O

I would say no. It makes sense that nothing lasts forever at the end of the world. Not even us. I would say that Mario games would be remembered for a long time but at some point the franchise will end because like I said, nothing lasts forever.

Forever? Thats impossible, I think you mean for a long time after the franchise or Nintendo ends. I'm pretty sure it will be remembered for a long while, since Nintendo was such a sucess and lots of fun. I doubt it will end though. Maybe Nintendo might run of ideas for Mario and make lame games, but he will be remembered.
