Alright, so for this, I don't want you to just answer the question... I want to do this.
I recently found this (crazy) guy showing of TONS of crazy info and stuff confirming (or possibly as close to confirmed as we've come) Ridley as a playable character. First..

Answer this: Do you think Ridley is playable??? (BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO)

Once you've answered that, watch the video with all this Ridley stuff going on:

Once you have finished watching the video, I ask you again: Do you think Ridley is playable??? (AFTER WATCHING THE VIDEO)

Ridley fans, you may still have a chance!
 
Nope, Ridley has already been de-confirmed, and added as a stage boss instead. Also, if he was playable, maybe he would have been in the 4chan leak (who's becoming closer to the final game's roster everyday).

But add to this the fact that it'll be confusing to have Ridley available as both a playable character and a stage boss.
Additionally, the video's thumbnail just shows a shadow. Aren't they aware that the WiiU version applies shaders to almost everything when you're fighting (well, the 3DS seems to do it too, but to a lesser extent, it must fit the system's GPU) ?

So, sorry to crush once again the Ridley fans' hopes, but, he won't be playable (He's too big, to quote somebody famous ;))!

First paragraph under the last photo and I quote "Now people claim this is absolute proof Ridley is a boss only." Sounds like anyone on this thread?

Wow. Didn't expect there actually was a hardcore Ridley fan on 3DSPedia. I guess that only Japanese players will be able to tell us first if he's in the game ;). But that try to find an evidence he would be available, though :D.

Now waiting for the Japanese Smash Bros. Release to see who will be right. I'll be sitting on my seat with some pop-corn during that time, waiting the second where we'll know who'll be right. *prepares popcorn*

PS: Just to troll you, I don't feel concerned :p, and I'm sure that Ridley won't be available as a playable character. He always had been a boss, after all.
 
Urgh. I did the vid, Ridley grabbing Pikachu (you could see it in the shadow) but i dont think he will be playable. He'll probably just be a stage hazard that grabs and throws you around :p

I am probably the biggest Ridley hater on here. Honestly, before I didn't even know who Ridley was, until I searched him up, and saw he's this large, obstruct character.. I literally hated him, just by reading Miiverse posts, and this ongoing battle with Ridley believers, it's infuriating. So.. I joined the Ridley-non believer group, ever since I've been in war on that battlefield called Miiverse. @D4rkDragon knows what I'm talking about.

I don't want him to be playable, he'll just be so out of place. I don't see Mr. Sakurai sizing him down, giving him that "puny" image, just for Super Smash, I liked his design in Super Smash Bros. Brawl more, it suits him, not a sized down-dragon... :bag: I hope all those leaks are fake and the video, in which Mr. Sakurai hinted something and Ridley's shadow passed by, I think he's just a boss, that occurs in the stage, or he's just "trolling" us...

Honestly, I am not sure about if he IS playable. But it would be better than having another Samus come around, right?

Well,considering the rumor that if you link the 3DS and the Wii U version gives you 4 more playable characters,one of them being Ridley,alongside Mewtwo,Chorus Men and Dixie Kong,I think he still has some chance,although,seeing him smaller than his usual size would seem a bit off.Yet,personally,the roster woudn't be lacking too much if he didn't make the cut.

Hmmmm, it's an interesting thing to ponder, to be honest, he'd be a cool character. But all in all I just think he'll be a boss or something. A small shadow isn't enough to prove he is playable, like I've said, he is possibly a boss character. I don't see him being a playable character, it just seems like he'd be too big for it, sure they could shrink him down but then he's just all wimpy like. Anyways, there isn't a surefire way to confirm him yet, until nintendo officially does it.

The pic about ST Link is no longer valid; if Link OR Toon Link is on the Spirit Tracks stage, Alfonso will be the one in the conductor's room. Thus, the shot seems to be from an earlier build of the 3DS version. Things may have changed.
