Do you think the NX would be backward compatible?

I mean there are a lot of games that we have with the older systems some of them play the older games and others don't. Do you think the NX would be able to, or should be able too.

Or do think that the NX would do something all together different, maybe it won't even have CDs and everything is just digital. I mean we have the eshops, so maybe it will come with a two free game download and from there we use eShop cards to get our games.

I don't know...what'cha guys think?

Most likely it's going to be backwards compatible. It may be able to play 3DS/Wii U games, and maybe some from the older consoles/handheld systems. If not then I guess all our physical copies would be good for nothing if everything had to be digital >.>
At least those of us that purchases a bunch of things through eShop wouldn't have to worry about that :p
But most likely it's gonna have the backwards compatiblity, that's probably one of Nintendo's biggest things with newer systems.

Hopefully it will be backwards compatible as N said, we might be able to have another disc and add on that will allow for 3ds games to be played, like the Gameboy reader for GameCube. My only concern however is if online capabilities for the 3ds will stay and what about downloadable content? Another thing I hope is Wii u since, well, it is a console and since not replacing it be perfect :p

As far as that part's concerned, I do remember the 3DS being able to play DS games with WFC, so if they are backwards compatible then maybe that might have a shot too.

Fair point. I just wonder how dual screen will work

Most likely yes. Because Nintendo did that for the past two console generations before this one. I don't know how 3DS games will work on NX though. That'll be weird for Nintendo. But for Wii U games, they will be fine. It would be cool if you can insert 3DS cartridges into the NX and play them. Let's just wait in the meantime.

Indeed I highly agree. #BackwardsCompatibleOrRiot

I doubt it, Nintendo has to go to with the x86 architecture (same as PC, Xbox One and PS4 so it's much easier to port games to the consoles, I also believe that it is much faster and efficient than PowerPC architecture) for this console, which means, I believe, that they cannot play PowerPC games (Wii U) on the NX console unless they spend a lot of time and resources making them backwards compatible by reconstructing the NX to be able to play both games, but I think Nintendo would be better off just re-releasing some 'Wii U Classics' for the NX, which they can actually make a better profit on and probably reach a larger audience, providing the NX actually does well. In addition to that, the process of making PowerPC games run on x86 is most likely impossible, but if it can be done, it's way more efficient to just re-release the top Wii U games again - this can also boost the NX game count at launch.

I guess it would be backward compatible and I hope it is. Backward compatibility is a feature that I feel every good console should have. If a console doesn't have it, no matter how good the company makes it, it would kinda feel lacking.

It would also make people regret at times of buying a game for an older console and therefore stick to the one they have.

Honestly, I hope it isn't. Quite simply, backwards compatibility is a thing of the past.

It inflates prices, clutters the system and generally is only used occasionally at best. No, they better move on and cut ties with the older consoles already, Virtual Console emulation is much, much more efficient in the long run.

They also can't keep using a souped up PowerPC processor every single time, either.

I would really hope that Nintendo makes it backwards compatabul with Wii U, they would loose sales if they sold an NX in the commercial someone says "Oh, and uh..... just by the way, as of now there is no support for Wii U" nobody would buy the NX. So yes, I do think n=Nintendo will make it at least backwards compatible with Wii U games.
