I don't play a lot of Dragon Quest and I certainly wasn't expecting a character from the game to "make the cut", but thanks to the recent E3 Nintendo Direct, we know that Dragon Quest's 'The Hero' will be Smash Ultimate's next DLC character.

Apparently he'll be available Summer 2019 and you'll be able to purchase him either:
  • individually for a specific price
  • or through the fighter's pass where you get all DLC characters
What do you guys think about this? :eyes:

I'm pretty sure Dragon Quest is pretty popular in Japan, iirc, so I think it might please them that 'The Hero' is in. It seems that there will be 4 variant of them, and I think their skills might be based on the hero costumes they pick.

Might as well move this post over.

Here's the trailer:

Banjo-Kazooie also got announced for Smash:

Again more characters that aren't Spyro from games I have never gotten to play. I guess Banjo fits with the DK crew because Rare and his design and The Hero fits just like any other Fire Emblem character and the Golden Sun content already in the game so why not. Kinda niche like Smash 4's DLC tho.

Dragon quest started it's roots on the nes so I think it's fair enough for a smash debut.

I still don't understand why characters like joker, cloud, snake and sonic need to appear in smash since they had little to do with nintendo's past, but of course, popularity wins out yet again :/

Sega doesn't really have a console anymore so they tend to be on Nintendo consoles for the most part plus Sonic was always rivals with Mario so they do have a history.

Joker and Cloud are just popular in general and probably draw a wider range of gamers because they have games on other consoles besides Nintendo.

He's now available in the game. Has anyone played as him or against him yet? What do you think?

So far Dragon Quest's Hero seems pretty decent. Summoning many skills like Kaclang, Sizzle, Heal or Thwack gave me the impression that he's kinda OP though :p Still, the MP gauge makes me reminded on how Inkling handles their ink meters, so I guess that's one necessary drawback there.

And I was wrong when I said the skills are dependent on hero's costumes earlier on. Turns out the skills are randomly selected.

So yeah, the entire Fighter’s Pass seems really lame to someone like me, but from what I’ve heard, The Hero is super OP, mainly due to his whole “random skill that has the chance to insta-KO”.

I really think that Nintendo should’ve thought that one out a little more, ngl xD

its not that he is OP, the problem its that he relies too much in RNG to be good, if he didnt had critical hits and most of the attacks of the down B, he woulnt be so spectacular,

also , he was banned in south australia in tournaments for using too much RNG,
