CVG has spoken to an EA source that wishes to remain anonymous who has told the publication that “Nintendo was dead to us very quickly.” The source then went on to say that the company felt that the Wii U was becoming a platform for kids IP and that they weren’t interested in bringing future core titles to the struggling platform.

“Nintendo was dead to us very quickly,” one EA source told me when asked about why the publisher fell out with Nintendo so soon after committing to the system.

“It became a kids IP platform and we don’t really make games for kids. That was pretty true across the other labels too. Even the Mass Effect title on Wii U, which was a solid effort, could never do big business, and EA like Activision is only focused on games that can be big franchises”.

Not cool EA, not cool at all!

What do you guys think, have they dropped the system too quick?

Mass Effect was a solid effort? A year old game, selling for the same price as the entire trilogy? It's no wonder EA's reputation is spiraling downward with comments like this.

Yeah, because all they can do is make Battlefield games that go, "Kill other people because they aren't American."
I'm not a big fan of the Wii U, but this is a childish reason to have dropped it. If developers act like this then both they and Nintendo are going to lose potential sales.

Really? lol. It's obviously something else. Probably a deal they made with Microsoft or something. They're still making games for the Wii and 3DS! Aren't they "kiddy" too? And if they call Nintendo platforms kiddy, look at some of the games on Xbox and Playstation, lol. They probably have more "kiddy" games than Nintendo! Is KNACK kiddy? Is LITTLEBIGPLANET kiddy? Is ZOO TYCOON KIDDY? Is RACHET AND CLANK KIDDY? This is what I don't get. You know what else doesen't make sense? Its the fact that EA uses Smartglass on Xbox One and PS Vita Remote Play, which do EXACTLY what the Wii U Gamepad does lol. So why cant they port them? Because they're lazy. Thats the truth.

And did you know, EA has been named the worst company in America for 2 years now, probably for the third year again! Don't worry, lol. FIFA 13 on the Wii U will be pretty much the same as FIFA 16 on the PS4. Nothing to worry about here for people who just own Nintendo consoles.

It's not a big loss for Nintendo :D !
Seriously, EA started to act evil towards Nintendo since the Wii reached its middle of lifespan.
And, as now, I officially see EA like Activision. Companies who just want more and more $/£/€, Cash !!!

And for the 'kid' term, they killed me. Why don't they drop Microsoft, or even Sony ? They also make 3+ (PEGI Rating) games ! Every console have its choice towards the population it targets. And Nintendo also made some 16/18+ games, too !

Okay, first off... let's all calm down. :) EA is temporarily doing this because they're a rational company. They want to support the companies that they believe they can make the money at. Since Nintendo is doing a poor job of selling consoles right now, EA feels that it isn't worth putting their games on the Wii U, knowing sales probably won't be too high.

Another source on the topic: http://www.t3.com/news/ea-confirms-it-has-dropped-support-for-the-wii-u-but-not-permanently

EA's quality control is so lousy of late, would their games even pass Nintendo lot check?

I think that if they pick their lazy a**** off of the ground and actually made a good game for the Wii U and stuck with it then it would make some cash... Also if they lower the price from something weird like $79.99 to $49.99... I saw a Call of Duty: Ghosts game at Carrefour for €89.99! Seriously even in France (lol) who has the money to buy games that cost that much?

Hmm... Call of Duty is from Activision, right ?
So, it explains the 'Actipognon' term given by french websites (Translation of the term: Acticash, that's approximative)!

And yeah, if they would move their lazy employees, perhaps they can make a valuable games... I miss the time where they were lots of great games. And when the console war wasn't that big... But I'm going off-topic, so I'll stop here !

I think EA was paid by Microsoft to drop the Wii U and make bad publicity, personally. For reference, watch the XB1 reveal event. EA was so prominent that it was pretty much a partner.

I am not a big fan of EA as a company but honestly, I'm a die hard hfan of their Fifa franchise and also Battlfield. The company makes some really good and serious games. I also think that Nintendo is focusing more on the younger generation. I mean yes, even adults play games on Nintendo but most of the games on Nintendo consoles cater to kids.

haha two big companies that are both looking for $bling$ having a fight :p i find that funny :p EA want killing games- nintendo want consoles sold , lol they are a perfect match :p i think EA is not entirely wrong because many people prefer to play battle field , COD on ps3 because its "better" but the thing is - nintendo aim too much at kids
(i mean like 3 - 13 ) and other teens see it as a kiddies play thing so if you were EA would you want to loose money helping some other company ? i wouldn't , of course if i was $$ but this is business , but i agree EA - not cool

That's so ignorant of EA to say. If it wasn't for Nintendo, no one could have saved the a**** of the video game industry. So what if the games on the Wii U are for kids? They are much more enjoyable than those same Call of Duty games released on PS3/Xbox 360, and besides. EA only wants to make games for systems that have a major popularity base. The Wii U has a lot of potential, and it can also compete with the PS4/Xbox One consoles. The features are almost the same, and the system itself is really powerful. EA should try developing their major games for the Wii U too, and it might skyrocket in its sales. Just give it an effort, Devs. Hear me out, and one day you will (might) thank me for the profits you make.

I believe EA's major issue is that a lot of the games they publish are geared towards a mature audience, and so far sales of mature titles on the Wii U have not been up to scratch. I can fully understand EA being hesitant to work with Nintendo, especially considering the massive losses the Wii U has had so far. At the end of the day, EA is a company, and companies want, nay need, profit. Say what you want about Call of Duty, Battlefield etc. but they make big bucks and that's what EA needs. The Wii U currently provides chump change at best, and a massive hole in the pocket at worst. I think that's what a lot of companies have realised lately, which is why it lacks third-party support. Sure, the Wii U has potential. But potential alone doesn't matter if it's too risky to be worth using.

I'm not saying the Call of Duty series is bad, but it is a game that is made primarily for making money extra quickly. A new CoD game sells billions on the release date itself, but then people get bored of it.

Sales of EA titles on Nintendo hardware will never be up to scratch if they are keep porting old games, with missing features, that are overpriced.

Oh I'm sorry EA, you don't make games that are for kids? Hmm.. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare? Plants vs Zombies? FIFA 14, is technically a game for kids and adults? Oh whoops... Looook what I came across! http://www.ea.com/kids

So EA doesn't make games for kids? They just too lazy and want instant money, no wonder they used to be called the worst company in America.
but this is a childish reason to have dropped it...
See, there childish, KIDS.

Ohh look, they also published Littlest Pet Shop, so cute...

Now, if you say that to EA's face, it might bring up some changes. I think they are avoiding the Wii u mainly because of the games the Wii U has. They regard Mario kart and Mario as games for a younger audience, and they are assuming that games for a more mature audience won't work out well enough. You can take the sales of CoD Ghosts for example. The sales on the Wii u only accounted for 1% of the total sales. (Not an EA game, though)
They did not release Battlefield 4 on the Wii u because of it's inability to run Frostbite 3.
