What are your some of your favorite fight scenes/fight choreography in anime? Also it's not mandatory but feel free to explain why you like a certain scene or your standards for judging fight choreography in general.
Beside the fluid animation and the great dialogue exchanges between Spike and Elektra, the most memorable aspect about this fight scene is just how creatively Spike uses his broom, one of the thing I appreciate in a good fight scene is when a character is seemingly at a disadvantage but manages to use the objects and/or the environment around them to gain the upper hand, I just love it.
In this fight scene from Sword of the Stranger (which in general has amazing fight choreography thanks to Yutaka Nakamura) there is no dialogue whatsoever, the only sound you hear (beside the wonderful soundtrack by Naoki Sato) is just the clashing of steel. Another aspect I like about the scene is how detailed it is in regards to the environment and how it affects the characters, not to mention how detailed the fight is itself, it took me a couple of watches for me to realize that the two characters had switched swords mid way through the fight and although this is true for any movie, I love it when an action scene rewards you for repeatedly watching it again, because it gives the scene and the film itself a little more depth.
While I don't feel Samurai Champloo's fight choreography is on par with Sword of the Stranger's, this scene is still noteworthy just for displaying a stark contrast between Mugen and Jin's fighting styles. Mugen's has a more unorthodox fighting style that incorporates breakdancing while Jin's fighting style is much more traditional, probably the best thing about this fight scene is how their fighting styles give us insight into their personalities without the need for any exposition.
